  • Revealing the extent of Neolithic rondel enclosures in Lower Silesia using non-invasive prospection

Open Access•Piotr Wroniecki, Mirosław Furmanek et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2023•Cited by: 1

During the early fifth millennium BC, Linearbandkeramik groups along the Danube in Central Europe constructed hundreds of circular enclosures, or 'rondels'. These monumental sites signalled major social, economic and ideological change among these early farming communities. The authors here explore neighbouring sites around Poznań using aerial photographs, geophysical survey and dendrochronology - to stunning effect. These low impact methods have given high impact results: dated street plans, some similar and others different from Biskupin, but within the same…

  • New Data on Early Medieval Flax Cultivation

    Małgorzata Latałowa, Włodzimierz Rączkowski•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•1999

The analysis of a great accumulation of flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) remains found as a well delimited bundle on an early medieval site in northern Poland is the basis of this paper. Ecological indicators are used to reconstruct the palaeoenvironmental conditions under which flax cultivation took place. The rich flax weed flora, including specific 'linicolous plants', is described. This botanical data is presentented and discussed against the ar…
