Outdoor science education and child well-being in primary schools
Background Children are increasingly exposed to stressors related to urbanization, climate instability, and biodiversity loss, which may contribute to poor well-being. School-based outdoor education has shown potential to support both well-being and learning, but robust evidence from randomized trials remains scarce. Science education outdoors, by engaging students with local biodiversity, may enhance scientific observation skills while contribut…
The Landscape of Research on Contextualized Science Learning
The vast and rapidly growing amount of science education research makes it challenging for researchers to navigate and synthesize developments across the field, particularly concerning broad concepts evolving along divergent paths. To address this issue, a novel review methodology employing bibliometrics and network analysis was tested to identify and characterize clusters of research focused on the relationship between school‐based science learn…
Does experimentally quieting traffic noise benefit people and birds

Teachers as participant-narrators in authentic data stories
This study describes outcomes from a place-based, teacher-scientist partnership intended to support teacher use of authentic data for science and math instruction. Teachers worked with scientists in the field to practice collection and analysis of authentic data. This case study investigated how narrative structure and contextualisation were created and used by teachers to convey meaning from the scientists to students. Participant interviews, fo…
Coaching teachers to implement innovations in STEM
Dewey’s Yardstick
Although experience and context are omnibus terms, the relationship between them provides some guidance on how each can be used to inform an understanding of the other. This article presents contextualization, or the degree to which content and context are connected through experience, as a measurable outcome of learning, education, or situated cognition. Contextualization is proposed here as a construct that (a) indicates curricular intention, c…
