    Dougald O’reilly, Dougald J W O''Reilly et al.•ARTICLE•Asian perspectives•2006•Cited by: 20

This paper analyzes faunal remains excavated from the late prehistoric cemetery of Phum Snay in northwestern Cambodia. The mammal and bird remains from the graves derive exclusively from domestic animals and include water buffalo, cattle, pigs, and possibly a chicken. In most cases, one or two limbs from …

  • Wild life in Ancient Khingar, Mustang. Archaeological evidence for locally extinct animal species in the Dzong Khola Valley, Northern Nepal

    Open Access•Angela Von Den Driesch•ARTICLE•Archaeofauna•1995

Faunal analyses carried out in the settlement mound of Khingar, evidence the presence of a series of macromammalian species whose habitat optima do not correspond with the present landscape of the area. Assuming that the hunting and breeding of these species took place not far from the site itself, such inconsistency can best be accounted for through habitat changes, in particular deforestation, brought about as a combination of human and domesti…

We present the pathological findings in a historic population of 82 baboon mummies recovered from the animal sanctuary of Tuna-el-Gebel in Egypt, in which we were able to demonstrate a high prevalence of disease. In almost 20 per cent of the baboons, signs were present of chronic malnutrition causing bowing and shortening of the long bones. A further 15 per cent of the animals revealed features of chronic joint or vertebral deformities suggesting…
