  • Violence, Victimhood and Retaliation

    Open Access•Kudakwashe Chitofiri, Lotti Nkomo•ARTICLE•Journal of Asian and African…•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 13

This article is an empirical examination of 'victimhood' in the context of the widespread, deadly and destructive electoral violence that affected Zimbabwe in 2008. It contends that an examination of the behaviour of victims of state-sponsored political violence enhances our comprehension of 'victimhood' as a factor in the perpetuation of political violence. The victims were largely ignored by the justice system, the political leadership and the …

  • “When should we expect a reasonable return on our investment Mr Rhodes?" The British South Africa Company shareholders and the profit motive, 1890 to 1923

    Open Access•Kudakwashe Chitofiri•ARTICLE•Southern Journal for Contemporary…•2021

Texts written by some white Zimbabweans in the post-2000 dispensation are largely shaped by their authors’ endeavor to contest the loss of lands they held prior to the onset of the Fast Track Land Reform Program (FTLRP). Written as memoirs, these texts are bound by the tendency to fall back on colonial settler values, Rhodesian identities, and Hegelian supremacist ideas in their narration of aspects of a conflict in which tropes such as truth, ju…

  • The Consequences of Violent Politics in Norton, Zimbabwe

    Jocelyn Alexander, Kudakwashe Chitofiri•ARTICLE•The Round Table•2010•Cited by: 6•References: 1

The lasting consequences of violent politics in Zimbabwe cannot be fully grasped without exploring both their institutional and material contexts and local interpretations of the meaning of particular acts of violence. Drawing on narratives of political violence from the town of Norton, three points are made. First, the extreme electoral violence of 2008 was interpreted by opposition members as an almost inexplicable moment of rupture. As a resul…
