Stockton named features after two whaling …
Vauban Under Siege
Siege warfare played a pivotal role in the conduct of war, yet it has often been dismissed as wasteful and time-consuming effort by those commanders and historians more interested in the quest for the decisive battles of offensive manoeuvre warfare. In this revised version of his 2002 doctoral thesis at the Ohio State University, Dr Jamel Ostwald carefully examines the full range of issues involving siege warfare in the early modern period, using…
Hospital Care and the British Standing Army, 1660-1714
A sequel to Gruber von Arni's published doctoral thesis, Justice to the Maimed (2001), which examined Army medical care from 1642 to 1660 during the Civil War and under Cromwell's New Model Army, this new volume is a narrative history that extends that study across the subsequent half-century of English military history under the Later Stuarts. The central purpose of this new work has been to investigate a wide selection of previously unused arch…
