  • A Microbiological Study of the Content of Vessels from a 6th Century BC Burial at Nor Armavir, Armenia

    N N Kashirskaya, T E Khomutova et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2026

    Open Access•N N Kashirskaya, T E Khomutova et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2026•References: 4

We present the results of a microbiological analysis of the soil-filling of vessels (two goblets, four pots, two jugs, and a jug-goblet) from a 6th century BC burial at Nor Armavir, Armavir Region, Republic of Armenia. Trophic preferences, the number of microbial communities in the soil samples, and the growth patterns of isolated microorganisms, grown in liquid culture media and capable of fermenting milk and simple sugars, strongly suggest that…

  • Reconstruction of Original Content of the Kurgan Funeral Vessels Based on Microbial and Enzymatic Parameters

    Open Access•Natalia Kashirskaya, N N Kashirskaya et al.•ARTICLE•Nizhnevolzhskiy Arheologicheskiy…•2023

The original content of ritual vessels from the burials of the two kurgan cemeteries was reconstructed using the multisubstrate testing system of microbial respiration and enzymatic activity of the soil from the pots. For this purpose, a laboratory model experiment was conducted and the decomposition of protein, lipid and polysaccharide organic materials was studied. Basing on the results of the model experiment, most indicative enzymes produced …

  • Soil biochemical inticators of initial presence of fat in different archaeological contexts

    Open Access•E V Chernysheva, N N Kashirskaya et al.•ARTICLE•Vestnik arheologii, antropologii…•2023•References: 21

The article proposes a new biochemical approach for the reconstruction of the initial presence of fat-containing products in different archaeological contexts (ceramic vessels from burials, soil samples in different parts of the skeleton and cultural layers of archaeological sites) based on the study of qualitative and quantitative changes in the parameters of the soil microbial community, namely, specific groups of microorganisms (lipolytics), a…

  • Microbiological Approach to Reconstruction of the Original Content of Pots from the Burials

    Open Access•T E Khomutova, K S Dushchanova et al.•ARTICLE•Nizhnevolzhskiy Arheologicheskiy…•2020

In a model soil experiment, microbial decomposition nature and its rate applying to various organic substrates were studied. It is shown that the decomposition of various materials changes the functional features of microbial communities. These changes are assessed using multisubstrate testing of respiratory activity of microbial communities – this testing assumes application of low- molecular respiratory inducers (aminoacids and carboxylic acids…
