‘Best practice’ for healthy urban development
Lack of clarity about what ‘healthy’ urban development means, alongside financial and technical challenges, has slowed progress on health-promoting development. Case studies could support learning, however, scholars have been critical of their risks when they are applied without adequate consideration of required adaptations or alternatives. We explored how health is promoted through new development via a narrative synthesis of published cases an…
Banqueting with the Gods
This article publishes nine new texts relating to ritual and cult in Old Babylonian Sippar. On internal grounds, they likely stem from Sippar-Amnānum (Tell ed-Dēr). Seven of these explicitly attest the banquets of particular deities, including Gula, Adad, Sîn, Šamaš, and Ea. Evidence for the influence of Annunītum and her cultic household is given in the texts. One text attests a night-vigil and provides evidence for a ritual most likely connecte…
Wellbeing in the city
Neighbourhood characteristics can facilitate or hinder the development of social ties, thereby influencing the loneliness of those who live in them. Most research to date has focused upon how either older adults (65+) or youth (under 19 years old) view and experience their neighbourhood, paying little attention to young adults (aged 16-24). Young adults are the loneliest age-group within the UK and other Western countries. Their loneliness is ass…
Climate change projections for sustainable and healthy cities
Large-scale climate projections for the coming decades show robust trends in rising air temperatures, including more warm days and nights, and longer/more intense warm spells and heatwaves. This paper describes how more complex and higher resolution regional climate and urban canopy models can be combined with the aim of better understanding and quantifying how these larger scale patterns of change may be modified at the city or finer scale. Thes…
Relationship-building around a policy decision-support tool for urban health
Contemporary challenges linked to public health and climate change demand more effective decision-making and urban planning practices, in particular by taking greater account of evidence. In order to do this, trust-building relationships between scientists and urban practitioners through collaborative research programmes is required. Based on a policy-relevant research project, Complex Urban Systems for Sustainability and Health (CUSSH), this pro…

Local school districts considering applying for a Department of Education (DOE) Teaching American History Grant (TAHG) can look to the Organization of American Historians (OAH) for assistance. The DOE recognizes the effectiveness of cooperative ventures in attaining favorable outcomes and stipulates that local education agencies (LEAs) form partnerships with institutions of higher learning, non-profit history or humanities organizations, or libra…
Current Research Inventory
As indicated in the last "Editorial Comment" (LARR 13, number 2), the LASA Executive Council and the LARR Editorial Board have agreed that this should mark the final appearance of the Current Research Inventory. Despite changes introduced in 1974, the compiling and editing of the Inventory has remained a major burden to the staff, and the intervening years have not given satisfactory evidence of its usefulness to our readers. However, the demand …
