  • A novel approach to rapidly tracking whole-farm methane emissions

Open Access•Huilin Chen, Katarina Vinković et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

Enteric fermentation and manure from livestock farming are major sources of methane (CH 4 ) emissions and have a large potential for emissions reduction. However, there is a lack of effective methods for evaluating future emissions reduction efforts, especially at the farm scale. We developed a rapid analysis method to evaluate CH 4 emissions from a large number of dairy cow farms in the Netherlands based on single-transect mobile van measurement…

  • Open towards the future. A reinvigoration of practical wisdom in teaching with a view to subjectification

    Open Access•Theo Van Der Zee•ARTICLE•Teachers and Teaching•2022

The daily contingent and ambiguous praxis of teaching raises various issues that are related to the multidimensional question of the purpose: what to do and how to act with a view to what is considered to be educationally desirable? Despite the revival of interest for practical wisdom as quality of teachers to judge what is to be done, literature is still scarce on practically wise teaching as a coherent entity of strategies to act and on a way t…

  • Leading the School Wisely and Purposefully

    Open Access•Theo Van Der Zee•ARTICLE•Religions•2022•References: 21

Regarding the educational endeavour of their schools, Catholic school leaders are challenged to maintain "mission integrity", and to remain faithful to the principles of Catholic education. While their daily praxis is characterised by multiple interruptions, even school leaders with profound theoretical knowledge and extensive experience do not automatically know how to deal with them in a way that aligns with the distinctive and authentic princi…

  • Discerning the Good

    Sandra van Groningen, C A M Hermans et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Theology•2016

This study addresses normativity in the practice of collaborative decision-making in Dutch Catholic school management teams. ‘Discernment’ is used as a heuristic to describe the process and content of collaborative decision-making. With regard to the process, discernment is marked by four distinctive aspects: reflection; trust; welcoming of diversity; and enactment of decisions. As for the content, discernment in schools requires different modes …

  • Teachers as a Source of Inspiration in Catholic Schools

Aad de Jong, Theo Van Der Zee•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Theology•2009

Teachers are expected to pursue formative goals. The question is how teachers in Catholic schools can actively manage to form learners in the perspective of gospel and Catholic tradition while still respecting the learners' freedom. One way of seeing this is to look at the inspiration that is supposed to emanate from the teachers. The concept 'inspiration' can help to identify a normative perspective on the interrelationship of education and stud…

  • The Influence of Feelings on Cognitive Achievement in Religious Education

Chris Hermans, Theo Van Der Zee et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Theology•2007

It has commonly been assumed that when it comes to religion, affect and cognition are mutually related. In this article we examine whether feelings influence cognitive achievement in religious education on the basis of two strategic interventions in the primary school classroom. Both interventions are meant to help students achieve cognitive understanding of religious ideas by interpreting biblical parables and other stories, but they do so in di…

  • Parable Understanding in the Primary School Classroom

Chris Hermans, Theo Van Der Zee et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Theology•2006
