  • Courage, Postimmunity Politics, and the Regulation of the Queer Subject

Chantal Nadeau, Chantal Nadeau Chantal Nadeau•ARTICLE•Indiana Journal of Global Legal…•2016

In this paper, I argue that courage is invoked in contemporary political discourses in such a way as to regulate queer legal subjectivities. That is, the discourses of courage re-articulate the social, legal, and political relations that define and restrict the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) citizens. Drawing on Roberto Esposito's theoretical elaboration of the concept of immunity, I remap the legal and political dynamics…

  • Queering the Middle

Martin F Manalansan, Chantal Nadeau et al.•ARTICLE•GLQ A Journal of Lesbian and Gay…•2014•Cited by: 13•References: 2

When imagined in relation to other regions in the United States, the Midwest is often positioned as the "norm," the uncontested site of middle-class white American heteronormativity. This characterization of the Midwest has often prevailed in scholarship on sexual identity, practice, and culture, but a growing body of recent queer work on rural sexualities, transnational migration, regional identities, and working-class culture suggests the need …

  • L'urgence-désir comme engagement

    Chantal Nadeau•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Communication•2006

    Open Access•Chantal Nadeau•ARTICLE•Recherches féministes•2005

  • Unruly Democracy and the Privileges of Public Intimacy: (Same) Sex Spousal Hiring in Academia

    Chantal Nadeau•ARTICLE•Journal of Lesbian Studies•2005

Within the context of a discussion of lesbian academic couples there is something to be said about the (dis)pleasures and profits of a heteronormative practice such as spousal hiring and how much this privilege reveals the broader systemic discrimination vis-à-vis sexual and gender claims in our academic institutions. Two issues emerge from its (questionable) application: (1) How a privilege such as spousal hiring intersects with institutional po…

  • Sang-statut, sang-loi: Le Sang Sans Sexe

    Chantal Nadeau•ARTICLE•Multitudes•2005•References: 5

    Chantal Nadeau•ARTICLE•Sociologie et sociétés•2002•Cited by: 1

    Chantal Nadeau•ARTICLE•Quebec Studies•1993

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the theoretical relevance of the concept of the other-woman in understanding the sociological, political and historical issues subtending a feminist position of enunciation in the debate over identity. Unfolding the ways in which the cultural discourse of Québécois cinema dismisses sexual difference in debates over national identity, I argue that women's sexual difference is made manifest by a social indi…
