Assessing the impact of urban rail transit on urban ecological resilience in China
Chinese Mediated Homonormativity: Cultural Citizenship(s) and the Politics of Popular Gay User-Generated Content
Denial of homosexual citizenship in China: Media Governance Through Censorship and Misrepresentation
This article theorises the denial of homosexual citizenship in China by examining how a feedback loop between censorship and misrepresentation sustains symbolic exclusion under authoritarian media governance. Drawing on the framework of cultural homosexual citizenship, it argues that homosexual visibility is not merely legally absent but actively managed through regulatory ambiguity, Confucian-nationalist ideologies, and delegated enforcement. Co…
Performing (Homo)Sexual Citizenship Under Authoritarian Rule: Gay Couple Vlogs and Everyday Intimacy in China
This article explores fufu () vlogs-user-generated video diaries of Chinese gay male couples on Bilibili-as performative acts of (homo)sexual citizenship under authoritarian rule. Drawing on frameworks of sexual, cultural, and performative citizenship, the study examines how these vlogs negotiate relational recognition, legal marginality, and mediated visibility within a tightly censored digital ecology. Combining digital ethnography and reflexiv…
Don't Bother Me Unless You are Good-Quality!' - Youzhi (優質) (Good-Quality) Discourse on Gay Dating Platform in China
Using multiple methods and qualitative research design (including analysis of online dating profiles, digital ethnography, and in-depth interviews), I examine the discriminatory nature and mechanism of youzhi (優質), a neoliberal discourse widespread on the Chinese gay dating platform "Blued." This paper also explores how users interpret the connotations of youzhi and utilize it while justifying and normalizing the usage. My findings consider that …
Are students happier the more they learn? – Research on the influence of course progress on academic emotion in online learning
Academic emotions of learners are important for academic achievement. For the online learning platform, it is of great value to gain insight into the academic emotion of the course in appropriate time interval from the platform. We crawled a large number of student comment texts from MOOC, and used deep learning algorithms (BERT models) to perform aspect-oriented sentiment classification on the comment texts. We conducted statistical analysis and…
Evaluating building color harmoniousness in a historic district intelligently: An algorithm-driven approach using street-view images
Building color and harmoniousness have been regarded as critical issues in planning historic districts. Harmoniousness of building façade colors (HBFC) is an indicator to evaluate the quality of the built environment, which can be perceived but is difficult to measure quantitatively. In addition, alleviating the impact of shadows in street-view images (SVIs) to assess building façade color is another research gap that is difficult to address. Thi…
Equity in Health-Seeking Behavior of Groups Using Different Transportations
The equity of health-seeking behaviors of groups using different transportations is an important metric for health outcome disparities among them. Recently, smart card data and taxi trajectory data have been used extensively but separately to quantify the spatiotemporal patterns of health-seeking behavior and healthcare accessibility. However, the differences in health-seeking behavior among groups by different transportations have hitherto recei…
Analysis of Location Selection of Public Service Facilities Based on Urban Land Accessibility
Urbanization has been a flourishing process in a wide range of developing countries. The planning and construction of public service facilities is a crucial component of this process. Existing planning methods of public service facilities focused on macroscopic indicators like population and GDP. In this way, accessibility and transportation conditions were neglected. Four typical counties in China were selected as samples where travel surveys an…
An Estimation Model of Urban Land Accessibility
Given that there are no practical quantitative indicators of traffic conditions for facility location selection in the process of urbanization, this article proposes a comprehensive accessibility index of location and its measurement method. Urban land is rasterized using GIS to obtain the grids, and the road network data are used to calculate the external accessibility and internal accessibility of the grids. The external accessibility and the i…
Presence of trauma and suicide risk: Personal control as a moderator
Given past findings that have linked trauma and lack of personal control to greater suicidal risk in adults, the present study examined how trauma presence and personal control are uniquely involved in predicting suicidal risk in a sample of 469 college students. Regression analyses indicated that both trauma presence and personal control were significant predictors of suicidal risk, as was their interaction. The present findings suggest a need t…
Relationship between interpersonal violence victimization and suicide risk in Indian college students: Does prior exposure to interpersonal violence also matter
We examined interpersonal violence victimization and prior interpersonal violence exposure as predictors of suicide risk, namely, suicide ideation and suicide attempt, in a sample of 207 Indian college students. Results of regression analyses indicated that interpersonal violence victimization, but not prior interpersonal violence exposure, was a unique predictor of suicide risk, independent of age and sex. Finally, we found support for a signifi…
