Advertising Health Status in Male Sex Workers' Online Ads
This brief report examines whether male sex workers mentioned any health concerns in their online ads. The analysis uses 203 male escorts' online ads collected from America Online chat rooms in 2001/2002. The results indicate that only 25 percent of male escorts explicitly mentioned any health-related words or phases in their ads. Men's concerns with sex and health in personal advertisements
In this paper, we examine 2400 personal advertisements in the USA collected from the Internet, focusing on health concerns and looking for differences by race and sexuality. Our results show that overall, the gay men represented in this sample were more concerned with health than the heterosexual men. One notable racial difference was that gay Latinos were less concerned about health, particularly among those who were explicitly looking for sexua…
Mapping Dominican transnationalism: Narrow and Broad Transnational Practices
This article maps the structure for understanding the Dominican transnational field. By transnational field we refer to a web of linkages that affects the lives of Dominicans in their places of residence in every social field.
