  • Interdisciplinary geoscientific approach to radioactive waste repository site selection

Open Access•Igor Soejono, Zita Bukovská et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2021

Interpretation of the deep geological and tectonic setting is a key step for safety assessment of the potential sites for a deep geological repository of radioactive waste. However, the conventional geological mapping is difficult in the agricultural landscape with lacking rock outcrops. To address this task, we combined geological and hydrogeological mapping, morphostructural analysis and geophysical methods to construct a new geological map and…

  • Geology of the Gobi and Mongol Altai junction enhanced by gravity analysis

Open Access•Pavel Hanžl, Alison Guy et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

The geological map L-47-V at a scale 1:500,000 covers part of Mongolian Altaids with ophiolite fragments in southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt in SW Mongolia. This region has a basin and range topography with Neoproterozoic and Palaeozoic units exposed at NW–SE trending ranges rising along major intracontinental faults and with intermontane basins filled by Mesozoic and Cenozoic sediments in between. The map shows clear N–S tectonic zonation fe…

  • Why Can't They Do Anything for a Simple Back Problem

    Open Access•Carol Campbell, Alison Guy•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2007•Cited by: 3•References: 44

In order to examine expectations for pain treatment and outcome and to determine whether they are influential in maintaining health service consumption 16 adults suffering from chronic pain were interviewed. Transcripts were subjected to thematic analysis. The six main themes to emerge were labelled: Unmet Expectations; Health Professionals; the Importance of Self; Getting Something Done; Back to Square One; and Perceptions of the Future with Rum…

  • Personal Collections

Alison Guy, Maura Banim•ARTICLE•Journal of Gender Studies•2000•Cited by: 16•References: 15

Women's relationship with clothes has been explored within a range of theoretical discourses about fashion that utilise the concept of ambivalence. This paper acknowledges that this may be a useful conceptualisation but argues that there is an absence of focus in most of these approaches concerning the reality of women using, reflecting on and generally living with their clothes. Using original research with a sample of 15 women, this paper attem…

  • Trapped in risky behaviour

Maura Banim, Alison Guy et al.•ARTICLE•Health Risk & Society•1999

The concept of empowerment within care environments has brought the issue of informed choice onto professionals’ and users’ agendas. However, this principle can be frustrated by a range of factors that reveal the tension between the autonomy of service users to take risks and the responsibility of service providers to assess and protect users from risks. This tension between users and providers has been noted within many areas of service but may …

  • Social representations of aggression

Open Access•Anne Campbell, Anne C Campbell et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•1996

Controversy over Moscovici's concept of social representations has focused upon the extent to which they can be viewed as enduring cognitive structures characterizing social groups and whether individual members are ‘prisoners’ of their social representations, unable to duplicate the social representations of other social groups. Previous research has established a consistent gender difference in orientation toward aggression with men viewing it …
