    Open Access•Nora Komposch, C Schurr et al.•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Institute of…•2024•Cited by: 5•References: 59

Spain's berry industry relies on the agricultural labour of both local and seasonal migrant workers. A significant part of this migrant workforce comprises Moroccan mothers who leave their children with relatives in order to perform this wage labour. The bilateral recruitment regime favours the employment of Moroccan women with children for this labour to ensure that workers return home at the end of the harvesting season. Drawing on multi‐site e…

This article provides a critical analysis of the mobility, labor, and political strategies of migration from Spain to Brussels following the 2008 economic crisis, comparing it with past migration flows. The data used in this study is based on fieldwork conducted from 2018 to 2020, which involved qualitative interviews with Spanish migrants. The results allow us to identify two distinct mobility profiles: first, individuals who relocated to Brusse…

The article explores the childcare arrangements made by Spanish migrants in Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. The research is based on semi‐structured interviews conducted after an exploratory survey. The respondents, mostly women with university degrees, had engaged in intra‐European mobility between the economic recession of 2008 and the health crisis of 2020. In the narratives, women in dual‐career couples with young children reflect on…

    Open Access•Angeles Escriva•ARTICLE•AMÉRICA LATINA HOY•2017•References: 6

    Open Access•Angela Bermúdez, Anastasia Bermúdez et al.•ARTICLE•AMÉRICA LATINA HOY•2017•Cited by: 4•References: 16

  • Care of Older People in Migration Contexts: Local and Transnational Arrangements Between Peru and Spain

Magdalena Díaz Gorfinkiel, Angeles Escriva•ARTICLE•Social Politics International…•2012•Cited by: 12•References: 1

Care arrangements for the elderly are becoming a main social process in contemporary societies due to socio-political and lifestyle changes over the last few decades. The family and the State play a basic role in the construction of care systems and in the establishment of strategies to access care resources. In the present context of migration, these resources interact at a transnational level, challenging family and State migratory regimes. The…

Open Access•Angeles Escriva, Ursula Santa Cruz et al.•ARTICLE•Latin American Perspectives•2010•Cited by: 5•References: 9

Emigrant support for 2006 Peruvian presidential candidate Lourdes Flores (the choice of the conservative Unidad Nacional coalition) was enough to win her the first electoral round abroad, but this tendency was not reflected in Peru. Data gathered during a 2006 study in Spain highlight the importance of gender and ideological reasons for understanding the electoral behavior of Peruvian migrants. Peruvian emigrant communities have the potential to …

  • Empleadas de por vida? Peruanas en el servicio doméstico de Barcelona

    Open Access•Angeles Escriva•ARTICLE•Papers Revista de Sociologia•2000•Cited by: 8

  • Control, composition and character of new migration to south‐west Europe: The case of Peruvian women in Barcelona

    Angeles Escriva•ARTICLE•New Community•1997•Cited by: 2•References: 6

There is increasing evidence that Spain, like some of its neighbours in the south‐west of Europe, is becoming a country of immigration. Barcelona, the capital of the federal region of Catalonia, has received a large number of internal migrants throughout the twentieth century, and this has occasioned some cultural conflict. The current foreign immigration brings with it the issue of newcomers’ legal status. Increasing undocumented migration has b…
