  • Reflective Freedom and the Substantive Motive of the Will

Open Access•Johan Gersel, Morten Sørensen Thaning•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Philosophy•2026

According to most contemporary treatments, our faculty of reason is itself devoid of a motive force. We defend the contrary Kantian position which claims that our faculty of rationality, our Will, comes with a motive force of its own. Our argument takes outset in the experience of reflective freedom as this has been discussed by Frankfurt, Watson, Velleman, and Sartre. We argue that each of their theories is unable to account for central features…

  • Introduction to special issue

    Open Access•Daniel Scott Souleles, M Archer et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Anthropology•2023•Cited by: 9•References: 32

Anthropologists have spent tremendous effort developing value theory. We might generally understand value theory as a form of social theory concerned with what groups of people find important or worthwhile in life; how those groups of people, via their relationships, identify, seek, and create that which is valuable; how ideas of value and worth inhere in people and things; and how those people and things then circulate and meet other universes o…

  • A Genealogy of Structuralism and Language

    Open Access•Sverre Raffnsøe, Marius Gudmand-Høyer et al.•CHAPTER•Michel Foucault•2016

Les mots et les choses. Une archéologie des sciences humaines was published in 1966 when the controversies surrounding structuralism were heating up. It was a decisive contribution to the structuralist trend in the wider public and became a phenomenon to be taken into account, not only in the humanities and social sciences but also philosophically. Despite it being a large and inaccessible work on the scientific and philosophical history of Weste…

  • Michel Foucault

    Open Access•Sverre Raffnsøe, Marius Gudmand-Høyer et al.•BOOK•Michel Foucault•2016

Michel Foucault continues to be hugely influential. His diagnoses challenge us to rethink crucial phenomena such as madness, discipline, the human sciences, the state, neoliberalism, sexuality and subject formation. Based on his work in its entirety, and with special emphasis on his many recently published lecture series, this book provides an updated, comprehensive and original account of his thought. By reading Foucault as a philosopher, it off…

  • Foucault's dispositive

    Open Access•Sverre Raffnsøe, Marius Gudmand-Høyer et al.•ARTICLE•Organization•2014•Cited by: 53•References: 29

While Foucault's work has had a crucial impact on organizational research, the analytical potential of the dispositive has not been sufficiently developed. The purpose of this article is to reconstruct the notion of the dispositive as a key conception in Foucault's thought, particularly in his lectures at the Collège de France, and to develop dispositional analytics with specific reference to matters of organization. Foucault's dispositional anal…

  • Foucault
