Predictors for Early and Late Death in Adult Patients with Covid-19
The timing of death in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) varied by their comorbidities and severity of illness. However, few studies have determined predictors of mortality with respect to the timing of death in infectious patients. This cohort study aimed to identify the factors associated with early and late death in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. From 14 May to 31 July 2021, this study consecutively recruited laboratory-confir…
Prevalence and factors associated with HIV infection among injection drug users at methadone clinics in Taipei, Taiwan
Taiwanese IDUs at methadone clinics have a relatively high HIV prevalence, which was associated with younger age and history of overdose. It is imperative to educate IDUs' about HIV transmission, particularly for the younger and overdosed IDUs
Prevalences and associated risk factors of HCV/HIV co-infection and HCV mono-infection among injecting drug users in a methadone maintenance treatment program in Taipei, Taiwan
IDUs enrolled in Taipei MMTPs had very high prevalences of HCV/HIV co-infection and HCV mono-infection. Interventions such as expansion of syringe exchange programs and education regarding HCV/HIV prevention should be implemented for this high-risk group of drug users
An innovative participatory method for newly democratic societies
Diagnosis and treatment delay among pulmonary tuberculosis patients identified using the Taiwan reporting enquiry system, 2002–2006
The Taiwan TB reporting enquiry system has successfully increased the confirmed PTB reporting rate from 64.4% to 71.5%. Greater age and a positive sputum culture were both found to significantly increase both diagnosis and treatment delays; treatment delay is also significantly affected by the patient having an aboriginal ethnic background and being diagnosed at a non-medical center
Interaction between Citizens and Experts in Public Deliberation
Participatory technology assessment often holds sessions for experts to inform laypersons about scientific controversies. However, few studies examine how these laypersons perceive experts and make policy recommendations. The purpose of this study was to examine interactions between experts and laypersons in two consensus conferences in Taiwan to find illuminating illustrations. Quantitative and qualitative methods were employed to understand the…
