  • Father involvement in pregnancy and attachment to their baby

Open Access•Alvin Thomas, Tova Walsh et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2026•References: 40

Black fathers, particularly those who are low‐income, unmarried, and from minoritized communities, face significant barriers to full participation in their children's lives. Prenatal challenges include scheduling conflicts, living arrangements, and relationship dynamics with the child's mother. These factors critically impact early paternal involvement and infant bonding. Despite the importance of father involvement, research on Black fathers' pr…

  • Pick a Side

Dalvery Blackwell, Derek Blackwell et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Religion Media and…•2025

Positioned at the intersection of seemingly disparate ideologies, Christian hip-hop ( chh ) often finds itself torn between two worlds. In today’s polarized political climate with heightened concerns over racial injustice, the church and the hip-hop community are not always on the same page, and chh ’s complicated history only makes matters worse. This pilot study seeks to understand how unacceptable racial disparities and adverse perinatal outcomes influence Black maternal depression and maternal bonding by exp…

  • Spatialized Intersectionality

    Open Access•Erica Morrell, Dalvery Blackwell•ARTICLE•Environmental Justice•2021

We introduce the term spatialized intersectionality to connote interlocking, geographically embedded forms of social identity marginalization. The past tense recognizes that prior and ongoing forms of complex white capitalist heteropatriarchal Western imperialism have left an imprint on all present-day geographies, and, as such, it urges us to interrogate the particular mechanisms by which this embedded inequity has come to be. To illuminate spat…

  • Is the New 65? Older Adults and Niche Targeting Strategies in the Online Dating Industry

    Open Access•Dalvery Blackwell•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2016•References: 4

Niche dating sites have become a popular trend in the online dating industry; yet, little is known about the specialization strategies these sites use to cater to their users’ needs. Moreover, previous research alludes to the idea that many of these sites may be engaging in pseudo-individualization—a deceptive technique that creates an illusion of specialization. This study focuses on niche dating sites for older adults, one of the fastest growin…
