Young migrants, “integration” and the local
This article examines the complexities of integrating young adult migrants from non-EU countries into European contexts, advocating for a shift toward inclusive, locally informed, and reciprocal integration processes. It critiques state-centric, assimilationist frameworks that emphasize an imagined national identity and Western norms of youth transitions, neglecting local nuances and diverse migrant experiences. Through findings from a European D…

Resilience Embedded in Psychological Capital of Ukrainian Refugees in Poland
By this article we want to say that we still know very little about the migration of war refugees from Ukraine as the process has been happening massively before our eyes. This article contributes to the vast literature on refugees. Firstly, it presents a new non-Western perspective because Ukrainian refugees move predominately from Eastern to Central Europe. Aid attitudes in short- and long-term perspectives among Ukrainian migrants and Poles during the Russian war in 2022
The aim of this article is to diagnose aid attitudes among those who potentially need help-help receivers, i. e., Ukrainian refugees-and help givers, i.e., Poles and Ukrainian labor migrants, during the initial stage of the escalation of the Russian war in 2022. By aid attitudes, we mean approaches to both the offering and the acceptance of help during the war in the short and long term. We conducted a small-scale exploratory web survey (Computer…
Migration and the Transfer of Informal Human Capital
This book explores the intangible human capital which international migrants bring with them and develop further when working and living abroad, drawing on case studies and original data from Central Europe and Mexico–USA. The book demonstrates that despite the fact that many international migrants might be working in their destination countries at a level below their formal qualifications, or else might be formally unskilled, but with practical …
The impact of migration on human capacities of two generations of Poles
The article explains the impact of working and living abroad on informal human capital of two generations of Poles: the 'Generation of Change' who was born in 1970s and the beginning of 1980s and the 'Generation of Migration' who was born in mid-1980s and at the beginning of 1990s. Our contribution to this Special Issue brings the umbrella concept of human capacities with the interplay of its individual (cognitive and intrapersonal) and social (i…
