  • Gender and Holocaust Research: Methods and Approaches, 1985–2025

    Karolina Krasuska•ARTICLE•Revue d’Histoire de la Shoah•2026

The story of gender and Holocaust research—now closely linked with the study of sexuality—is a story both of Holocaust research, its new archives, and new evidence examined, and of the intellectual evolution of gender studies, often in activist settings. These intellectual developments can be divided into three stages, which are indicative of broader socio-political, as well as women/gender/sexuality research, contexts. The first stage encompasse…

  • Transpokoleniowy upór. O książce Xięga poezji idyllicznej w opracowaniu Barbary Stelingowskiej

    Open Access•Karolina Krasuska, Anna Dżabagina•ARTICLE•Wielogłos•2024

The article critically discusses Xięga poezji idyllicznej [The Book of Idyllic Poetry], edited by Barbara Stelingowska and published in 2023. The authors focus on the editorial and substantive issues of the analysed edition – in particular, on problems related to the identity of the volume’s author, Maria Komornicka/Piotr Odmieniec Włast, shown in the necessary context of contemporary gender and queer studies

  • Queering Jewish Studies

Anna Hájková, Karolina Krasuska et al.•ARTICLE•Jewish Social Studies•2024•References: 2

This forum brings together eight scholars of various disciplines who take stock of queer perspectives on Jewish Studies, introduce new lines of research, and show the many ways in which queering Jewish Studies energizes the field. The authors also discuss the particular promise of Jewish trans studies as well as the nexus of queers and Jews in the age of rising populism. Overall, the forum serves as a primer for those interested in how to teach o…

  • Post-Soviet great-granddaughter: (Auto)biographical intergenerational narrative in the graphic novel Soviet Daughter by Julia Alekseyeva

    Open Access•Karolina Krasuska•ARTICLE•Autobiografia•2020

Artykuł analizuje powieść graficzną Soviet Daughter: A Graphic Revolution (2017) Julii Alekseyevej jako międzypokoleniową narrację (auto)biograficzną prababci i prawnuczki – tekst literacki należący do dynamicznie rozwijającej się współcześnie w Stanach Zjednoczonych anglojęzycznej poradzieckiej literatury żydowskiej. Tytułowa „radziecka córka” wskazuje na rodowód polityczny i przede wszystkim odnosi się do prababci; jednak poprzez wspólne im tra…

  • Gendering the Holocaust gallery in Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews

    Open Access•Karolina Krasuska•ARTICLE•European Journal of Women s Studies•2019•References: 5

Even though a gender perspective, in reference to various aspects of museums and their exhibits, permeates the reflection on museums, gender is not explicitly taken up as a category of knowledge within the self-reflective narratives about the core exhibition or the conceptualization of the Holocaust gallery in POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jewish, which opened in Warsaw, Poland in 2014. Building upon the research gendering the memory of t…

  • Americanizations of Holocaust Memory and Museum Aesthetic Experience

    Open Access•Karolina Krasuska•ARTICLE•European Journal of American…•2018•References: 9

The article interprets an emblematic segment of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum exhibition, The Tower of Faces and the installation on the 1941-2 pogroms in Nazi-occupied Poland in the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews to compare the aesthetic experience of these examples of Holocaust memorialization. It argues that using the concept of “Americanization,” as it is employed in American Studies in Europe and in Holocaust and me…

  • Narratives of generationality in 21st-century North American Jewish literature: Krauss, Bezmozgis, Kalman

    Karolina Krasuska•ARTICLE•East European Jewish Affairs•2016

The article explores prominent contemporary texts by David Bezmozgis, Nadia Kalman, and Nicole Krauss to juxtapose the narratives of generationality they produce. I argue that these narratives depend on intersecting notions of family, genealogy, and (procreative) heterosexuality and on various formal temporal modes that these texts employ. Generationality, in recent Holocaust literature, as represented here by Krauss, seems to give rise to and re…
