Colonial and Postcolonial Legacy of "Ethnic" and "Religious" Clashes in Eastern Sudan
Based on ethnographic data of an ongoing research, this note analyses the clashes which occurred in Eastern Sudan during summer 2019. It proposes to replace their reductive interpretation as “ethnic” or “religious” clashes with a deeper sociohistorical explanation in terms of class struggles rooted in colonial and postcolonial class formation of capitalist economy in Kassala
