  • Migrant Children in Europe

Giovanni Giulio Valtolina, CHIKARA OGURA et al.•BOOK•Migrant Children in Europe•2013

METHODS. The prevalence of dementia was investigated in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. In all, 3524 subjects, > or = 65 years old, were sampled randomly (urban and rural populations 61.1% and 38.9% respectively). Phase 1 of the survey was carried out by specially trained students of the Faculty of Medicine who used the Mini-Mental State (MMS) scale (interview rate: 94.3%) to screen 522 (15.8%) of the 3312 subjects for the phase 2 survey. Phase 2, con…

  • Fish intake and the risk of fatal prostate cancer

    Open Access•Truong-Minh Pham, Truong‐Minh Pham et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2009

Objective We investigated the relationship between the intake of fish and the risk of death from prostate cancer. Design Data were derived from a prospective cohort study in Japan. Fish consumption obtained from a baseline questionnaire was classified into the two categories of ‘low intake’ and ‘high intake’. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) and 95 % confidence intervals. Subjects Data for 5589 men aged 3…

  • Marital status and mortality among Japanese men and women

Open Access•Ai Ikeda, Hiroyasu Iso et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2007

Single status was associated with a higher risk of mortality than was married status for both men and women. Divorce and widowhood were associated with elevated risk for men, but not for women. These findings suggest single, divorce and widowhood status constitute potentially adverse health effects

  • Association between Multi-level Inorganic Arsenic Exposure from Drinking Water and Skin Lesions in China

Open Access•Xiaojuan Guo, Yoshihisa Fujino et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2006

Arsenic is one of the most important toxicants in the environment. In Inner Mongolia of China, 300,000 residents are believed to be drinking water containing >50 microg/liter. Skin lesions have been known as the most common consequences resulting from chronic exposure to arsenic. To clarify the prevalence of arsenic-induced skin lesions, it is important to assess the impact of this problem among the target population, and to make future planning.…
