  • Covid-19 specific anxiety, perceived stress related to missile attacks, and anxiety “episodes”

Yarin Szachter, Hagar Shalev et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2025

Findings support an additive pattern, whereby perceived stress from missile attacks contributed to the onset of an anxiety episode over and above the effect of VSA, while VSA predicted the total number of such episodes. Focusing solely on a single, highly salient stressor may hinder clinicians and policymakers' ability to identify the adverse effect of multiple stressors. • Should a Yogi Be Healthy? Health Concepts in Early Haṭhayoga Texts

    Open Access•Hagar Shalev•ARTICLE•Journal of Indian Philosophy•2024•References: 3

Haṭhayoga texts, influential in the development of modern posture-based yoga, offer a conceptual framework intertwining physical cultivation, health, and soteriological aims. This article explores two interconnected inquiries regarding early Haṭhayoga texts: How do they conceptualize health, and how do they perceive the relationship between health and soteriology? These investigations illuminate the place of health in early yoga texts within Hind…

  • Individual Exposure to Terror and Political Attitudes

Daphna Canetti, Amnon Cavari et al.•ARTICLE•Terrorism and Political Violence•2021•Cited by: 3

How does exposure to terrorism affect political attitudes? This paper presents a new individual-level psychobiological model of political attitudes. Using a unique individual-level data of personal exposure to terrorism, a physiological marker of inflammation (CRP) and a psychological measure of perception of threat to an ongoing conflict—the Israel-Palestinian Conflict—we assess the effect of personal exposure to terrorism on militant attitudes …

  • Self‐criticism, interpersonal conditions, and biosystemic inflammation in suicidal thoughts and behaviors within mood disorders

Open Access•Golan Shahar, Megan L Rogers et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•2020

We review the theoretical and empirical literature on the role of self‐concept in suicidal behavior in the context of mood disorders (i.e., unipolar depression and bipolar spectrum disorders). The main themes emanating from this review are then juxtaposed against (a) the Interpersonal‐Psychological Theory of Suicide and (b) biological research on the role of inflammatory processes in suicidality. Such a juxtaposition paves the way for a bio‐cogni…

  • Depressive personality vulnerability in chronic physical pain

Open Access•Golan Shahar, Sheera F Lerman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•2018

OBJECTIVE: Chronic physical pain is one of modern medicine's principal challenges. Recently, there has been a keen research interest in the role of depressive personality vulnerability (DPV) in the course of chronic pain. This is the first attempt to examine the role of three leading DPV dimensions-sociotropy, autonomy, and self-criticism-in chronic pain. METHOD: Chronic pain patients (N = 428) were assessed four times as to their pain, disabilit…

  • Charismatic mediumship and traditional priesthood

    Asaf Sharabi, Hagar Shalev•ARTICLE•Religion•2018•Cited by: 5•References: 36

In the Indian Himalayas, mediums who operate as channels through which deities can communicate with their devotees, function alongside priests who serve these deities. In this article, we examine the relationship between these two religious roles with regard to the deity Mahāsū. At the individual-personal level we examine how their roles are linked to different sources of authority – whereas the priests' source of authority is traditional, the me…

  • Chronic pain under missile attacks

Gal Noyman-Veksler, Hagar Shalev et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2017

Media exposure to acute stress may render chronic pain patients more vulnerable to experiencing pain and depressive symptoms, depending on their use of pain-based catastrophizing. High catastrophizers may attend more to outside threats, amplifying the sensory and affective aspects of pain they experience. Perceived stress also plays a significant role in eliciting depressive symptoms in this population. (PsycINFO Database Record

  • Longitudinal Associations Between Depression, Anxiety, Pain, and Pain-Related Disability in Chronic Pain Patients

Sheera F Lerman, Zvia Rudich et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2015

OBJECTIVE: The current study sets out to examine the longitudinal relationship between pain, pain-related disability, and symptoms of depression and anxiety. The latter symptoms are highly prevalent in chronic pain and seriously impede functioning and quality of life. Nevertheless, the direction of the relationship involving these variables among individuals with chronic pain is still unclear. METHODS: Four-hundred twenty-eight individuals with c…
