Nonunilinear Descent Groups in the Plateau Culture Area
Evidence is presented that nonunilinear descent groups existed in the traditional Plateau Culture Area and still persist today. Each extended family traces itself through either males or females back to a founding ancestor, making such a group a nonunilinear descent group. This is noteworthy because most such descent groups have been identified among horticulturalists, whereas traditional Plateau societies had a fishing-gathering-hunting economy.…

Ethnoarcheological Interpretations of Territoriality and Land Use in Southwestern Alaska
Land use and the perceived spatial extension of a village or community are two rather different variables subsumed under the concept of territoriality. One involves the concept of resource use within specifically designated areas not necessarily interconnected while the other is a more pervasive, continous dimension which includes areas not important to subsistence. Marital Instability and Juvenile Delinquency Among the Nez Perces1
This study is concerned with the causes of juvenile delinquency among the Nez Perce Indians of Idaho. Marital instability is examined in the past and present for its relationship to contemporary juvenile delinquency. Additional factors considered include the loss of aboriginal communal discipline, the loss of patrilocality, and the continuation of inappropriate aboriginal male and female roles into the present
