Developing a Pacific Family Model approach to co-design a diabetes prevention programme
Pacific families in New Zealand experience high rates of type 2 diabetes and unequal access to health-supporting resources. Pacific communities draw on collectivism and social capital to mobilise social action. This study aimed to develop a Pacific Family Model (PFM) approach to address T2DM-related health inequities. This study involved an established empowerment programme aimed to build community knowledge and skillsets in health promotion stra…

The study participants ( n = 26) were at risk of developing prediabetes and represented the working age group of P…
The role of tobacco and alcohol use in the interaction of social determinants of non-communicable diseases in Nepal: A systems perspective
Tobacco and alcohol use facilitated interaction of the social determinants of NCDs in the context of Nepal. Socio-economic status of families was both driver and outcome of tobacco and alcohol use. Health system actions to prevent NCDs were delayed mainly due to lack of system insights and commercial influence. A multi-sectoral response led by the health system is urgently needed
Pasifika Youth Empowerment Programme: A Potential Public Health Approach in Tackling Obesity-Health Related Issues
In New Zealand, the burden of obesity is greatest among Pacific people. However, targeted prevention strategies among Pacific communities are needed to learn about how to partner with indigenous groups to successfully apply such strategies. The aim of this study was to pilot the Pasifika Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP), which consisted of five interactive learning modules, among 15 Pasifika youth (18-24 years) from Wellington, New Zealand. This…
