Interpreting Microaggressions: The Role of Discourse Context, Recipient Status, and Observers’ Political Orientation

Using approaches from pragmatics, especially relevance theory, we conducted experiments to examine factors predicted to influence perceptions of an utterance as a microaggression. Participants read scenarios describing an interaction between two people and indicated their perceptions of a target remark. We expected and found that an utterance was more li…
Beyond Recidivism: A Systematic Review Exploring Comprehensive Criteria for Successful Reintegration After Prison Release
Individuals who have served prison sentences face challenges in reintegrating into society, with recidivism often used as the primary indicator of reintegration success. This systematic review analyzed 38 studies with adult participants who had served a sentence or were in the last year of prison, identifying criteria for successful reintegration after release and risk and protective factors. Success factors cover intrapersonal (health, drug abst…

The main objective of this study is to assess the relationship between cues of sexual desire and sexual attitudes in Portuguese women. This is a cross-sectional study with 804 Portuguese women …

I examine this proposal in a Portuguese migrant housing project where contrasting moral codes and personhood models coexisted. Local residents (Portuguese and African migrant families formerly living in slums) were involved daily in discrepant discourses and behaviors: strongly defending neighb…
