    Open Access•Aimée Joyce, Helen L Breadmore•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•2022•References: 34

BACKGROUND: Sleep problems are common in children and are known to detrimentally affect language and cognitive abilities, as well as academic achievement. AIMS: We aimed to investigate effects of sleep on oral word and non-word reading in a large, cross-sectional sample of children. SAMPLE: Of 428 children who attended a public psychological science event, 339 children aged 4-14 years (mean 8;10 ± 2;2) took part. METHODS: Parents completed two sl…

  • Silent Traces and Deserted Places: Materiality and Silence on Poland’s Eastern Border

    Open Access•Aimée Joyce•ARTICLE•Ethnologia Polona•2021•References: 5

This article explores how silence is held and transmitted through the materiality of deserted and abandoned places along the Polish frontier; and the generative role that silencing plays in local practices of tolerance. The article discusses two specific sites of silence in a town on Poland's eastern border. Both sites were abandoned or destroyed at the same time, and are part of a larger landscape of religious and ethnic conflict in the area. Th…

    Open Access•Sarah Grantham-Hill, Hazel Evans et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

A well designed questionnaire with good psychometric properties had limited predictive value to screen for moderate to severe OSA in young children with DS. The use of a screening questionnaire is not recommended. Screening for OSA in this population requires objective sleep study measures

  • When the Orthodox Went Away: Histories of Displacement and Extermination on the Polish/Belarusian Border

    Aimée Joyce•ARTICLE•Anthropological Quarterly•2019•Cited by: 1

This article asserts that the current rise of right wing nationalism in Poland utilizes a set of nested historical erasures and silences. As Trouillot demonstrates, all history making is about selective acts of remembering and forgetting, and close attention to specific “unthinkable” histories reveals how power infuses the process of history making (1995:29). In the Polish case, the authorized historical record produces a homogeneous model of Pol…
