  • Evidence for Younger Dryas global climate oscillation and human response in the American Southwest

    Open Access•Jesse A M Ballenger, Vance T Holliday et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2011•Cited by: 17•References: 30

  • Mapping Clovis

    Open Access•Mary M Prasciunas•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2011•Cited by: 12•References: 27

The distribution of Clovis projectile points across North America demonstrates distinct spatial patterning that has the potential to inform on many aspects of the colonization process. However, before accurate inferences regarding prehistoric behavior can be drawn from projectile point distributional databases, it is necessary to account for biases potentially affecting point visibility. Using county-level data for a sample of states from the wes…

  • Bifacial Cores and Flake Production Efficiency

    Open Access•Mary M Prasciunas•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2007•Cited by: 78•References: 36

Many researchers assume that the greater flake tool production efficiency of bifacial versus amorphous cores helps explain the prevalence of bifacial core technology among mobile populations. This paper describes experiments that test whether bifacial cores are more efficient carriers of flake cutting edge than amorphous cores. The first experiment established a size threshold of flake cutting efficiency. The second experiment reduced ten bifacia…

  • The Dendrochronology of Palluche Canyon, Dinétah

    Linah N Ababneh, R H Towner et al.•ARTICLE•KIVA•2000•Cited by: 2•References: 5

The ancestral Navajo homeland of Dinétah in northwestern New Mexico contains hundreds, if not thousands, of Navajo archaeological sites that date from the A.D. 1500S through the late 1700s. A subset of these sites, known as pueblitos, are masonry structures located in defensible positions on boulder tops, mesa rims, and other topographically isolated settings. This paper presents dendrochronological data from the newly discovered site of Twine Ho…
