  • Towards better reconstruction of smelting temperatures: Methodological review and the case of historical K-rich Cu-slags from the Old Copper Basin, Poland

Open Access•Katarzyna Kądziołka, Anna Pietranik et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2020•Cited by: 8•References: 8

Temperature is a crucial factor influencing the effectiveness of metal smelting process. When studied in historical slags it provides information on the evolution of smelting technologies over time and how humankind approached metal recovery. Methodological approaches to temperature reconstruction using pyrometallurgical slags vary and this study serves as a critical review of the methods used so far with the complex historical smelting site used…

  • Historical materials from the post-Cistercian abbey in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki (southwestern Poland)-application of mineralogical methods for identification of source of raw materials

    Open Access•Wojciech Bartz, Jakub Kierczak et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2017•Cited by: 3•References: 25

In this paper, we use a set of methods applied for geosciences to reveal the provenance of raw materials and historical aspects of technology of lime production from the post-Cistercian church (southwestern Poland). Two types of building stones (mica schists and sandstones) and two groups of mortars, related with two different construction phases (Gothic and Baroque), were used for construction of the church façade. Principal difference between b…
