Data presented in a previously reported ethnographic research project indicated that an urban elementary school regularly subjects its students to dated curricular materials and supplies. Theorizing Race, Gender, and Violence in Urban Ethnographic Research
The present article draws on ethnographic data to illuminate dynamics of race, gender, and systemic violence in an informal urban learning environment. It makes critical linkages among relationships that undermine the educational achievement of Black children. The article does not stop at simply documenting violent schooling conditions, however.
