  • Administering selected subscales of patient-reported outcome questionnaires to reduce patient burden and increase relevance

Open Access•Daniel Serrano, David Cella et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2024

Patient-reported outcome (PRO) questionnaires considered in this paper contain multiple subscales, although not all subscales are equally relevant for administration in all target patient populations. A group of measurement experts, developers, license holders, and other scientific-, regulatory-, payer-, and patient-focused stakeholders participated in a panel to discuss the benefits and challenges of a modular approach, defined here as administe…

  • FABry Disease Patient-Reported Outcome-GastroIntestinal (FABPRO-GI)

    Open Access•Alan L Shields, Roger E Lamoureux et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2021

With evidence of content validity, the 24-h and 7-day FABPRO-GI are the first Fabry disease-specific patient-reported outcomes to assess GI signs and symptoms in patients with Fabry disease with potential for use in clinical trials and real-world settings, respectively

  • Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices of Physicians in Tomsk Oblast Tuberculosis Services Regarding Alcohol Use Among Tuberculosis Patients in Tomsk, Russia

Open Access•Trini Mathew, Trini A Mathew et al.•ARTICLE•Culture Medicine and Psychiatry•2009

  • The File Drawer Problem in Reliability Generalization

    Open Access•Ryan T Howell, Alan L Shields•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2008

Meta-analytic reliability generalizations (RGs) are limited by the scarcity of reliability reporting in primary articles, and currently, RG investigators lack a method to quantify the impact of such nonreporting. This article introduces a stepwise procedure to address this challenge. First, the authors introduce a formula that allows researchers to estimate the lower bound population average reliability for a desired instrument. Second, they pres…

  • Substance Use Scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory

    Open Access•Christopher S Miller, Alan L Shields et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2007

The current study evaluated the reliability reporting practices among 210 studies administering the MAC/MAC-R, APS, and/or AAS. Furthermore, reliability generalization methods were used to characterize the previously reported reliability estimates associated with each instrument. The vast majority of studies (90.6%) did not provide measurement reliability data, suggesting a need for improved psychometric reporting. Data from the remaining studies…

  • Reliability Generalization of the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale

    Open Access•Donna J Ryngala, Alan L Shields et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2005

Areliability generalization of the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale (RCMAS) was conducted using the normative sample. The RCMAS consists of a Total Anxiety scale as well as four subscales. Results suggest that the Total Anxiety scores are typically reliable (median • across 48 samples = .81). Subscale scores were less reliable: The median • coefficients were .61 for the Physiological subscale, .63 for the Concentration subscale, .77 for …

  • Assessing Motivation to Change Among Problem Drinkers with and without Co-occurring Major Depression

    Alan L Shields, Michael R Hufford•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•2005

The University of Rhode Island Change Assessment Scale (URICA) is a widely used measure of readiness to change. To evaluate the URICA's ability to discriminate among alcohol abusers with and without co-occurring major depression, the authors administered it to 193 outpatients court-referred for alcohol treatment. Estimates of internal consistency suggest that scoring the URICA using its traditional factors, as well as using the newer Readiness to…

  • A Reliability Induction and Reliability Generalization Study of the Cage Questionnaire

    Open Access•Alan L Shields, John C Caruso•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2004

The CAGE is a commonly used alcohol screening instrument. Although considerable work has been done on the validity of CAGE scores, relatively little information is available on their reliability. Reliability induction and generalization studies were performed for the CAGE. Of the 259 studies available for analysis, only 19 (7.3%) contained reliability information for the sample scores. Thirteen (5.0%) and 227 (87.6%) articles made what are design…

  • Reliability Generalization of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test

    Open Access•Alan L Shields, John C Caruso•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2003

The present study evaluated the reliability of scores from the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) in a reliability generalization study. This reliability generalization had two primary goals: (a) to characterize the typical reliability of scores for the AUDIT, and (b) to examine factors that may be related to the reliability of AUDIT scores. The median internal consistency reliability across 24 samples was .81, with a range of .59 …
