The ways that humans acquire information is undergoing a fundamental change comparable to the introduction of Gutenberg’s moveable type and printing press and the development of broadcast systems in the twentieth century. In the Internet Era – the first decades of the twenty first century – individuals seek information on subjects that are salient or important to them from sources they trust at the time that they need or want that information. In…

The acceptance of evolution: A developmental view of Generation X in the United States
The public acceptance of evolution remains a contentious issue in the United States. Numerous investigations have used national cross-sectional studies to examine the factors associated with the acceptance or rejection of evolution. This analysis uses a 33-year longitudinal study that followed the same 5000 public-school students from grade 7 through midlife (ages 45–48) and is the first to do so in regard to evolution. A set of structural equati…

This document addresses its effect on public communication of the archaeological site of Atapuerca (Spain), World Heritage (UNESCO). It contributes to the scarce production of information from primary sources on public communication of science in archaeology and archaeological heritage. A qualitative investigat…
Public acceptance of evolution in the United States, 1985–2020
The public acceptance of evolution in the United States is a long-standing problem. Using data from a series of national surveys collected over the last 35 years, we find that the level of public acceptance of evolution has increased in the last decade after at least two decades in which the public was nearly evenly divided on the issue. A structural equation model indicates that increasing enrollment in baccalaureate-level programs, exposure to …

The Covid-19 pandemic is the most serious public health crisis in the lifetime of most living adults, but it may be a precursor of crises to come in the decades ahead. Apart from the health challenges associated with the pandemic, the public reaction to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic offers important insights into the role of lifelong learning about rapidly emerging issues and public policy decisions. Using data from a two-wave national probabi…
Covid-19: Desigualdad informativa y democracia
