The idea of micro macro integration (MMI) provides a useful framework for thinking about primary healthcare (PHC) and community development in health (CD). PHC and CD are important strategies for addressing the structural determinants of health. They are each based on a powerful logic and have a significant body of support. A Critical-Holistic Paradigm for an Interdependent World
The health-disease continuum and the current health paradigm neglect the fundamental descriptors of community welfare, including nutrition or malnutrition, equity or poverty, and sustainable development or underdevelopment. Anthropometric data, income and feeding practices were analyzed under 6 months of age, and use of breast and powdered milk formula was most frequent; from 6 to 12 months cow's milk and family foods predominated. This field study and other findings suggest that, while breast feeding is a desirable practice which should always be encourag…
Disablement and Helping
This study investigated the effect of apparent disablement and sex differences on helping behaviour. Women received more help than men but the presence of a wheelchair did not decrease the amount of help offered. It is suggested that the presence of a wheelchair may cause less embarrassment to the help-giver than other more disfiguring handicaps
