Shallow vs. Deep Geoethics
At its inception, geoethics was envisioned as a type of professional ethics concerned with the moral implications of geoscientific research, applications, and practices. More recently, however, some scholars have proposed versions of geoethics as public and global ethics. To better understand these developments, this article considers the relationship between geoethics and environmental ethics by exploring different aspects of the human-nature re…
A Análise Dialógica Do Discurso Como Possibilidade Teórico-Metodológica Para a Produção De Conhecimento Na Geografia Escolar
Seguimos…
Remarks on the Barthesian notion of punctum
This paper aims to be a compendium on the significance of images as an effective mediator in communication. The research work has resulted from the assumption that it is possible to think of the image as an intrinsically ethical mediator in communication. It has been amply demonstrated that the use of images can reach a level within a communication that is inherently ethical, able to take effective account of an otherness. There cannot exist, in …
Recent alluvial fans in Calabria (southern Italy)
The present work aims at identifying the location of recent debris-flow-dominated alluvial fans at a regional scale in Calabria (southern Italy). Here, alluvial fans widely occur as both tributary junction and mountain front types and represent a potential hazard to human settlements and transportation links near or on them. The alluvial fans inventory map at 1:250,000 scale was obtained by means of a stereoscopic interpretation of aerial photos …
Landslide-risk scenario of the Costa Viola mountain ridge (Calabria, Southern Italy)
The study area of the Costa Viola mountain ridge is strongly exposed to shallow landslides triggered by rainfall. Starting from a susceptibility map, recently published by the same team, the related risk has been assessed, limitedly to landslide sources. The hazard has first been evaluated by considering the recurrence periods of triggering events. Economic value and physical vulnerability of the types of elements at risk have been assumed by con…
