Digitala brikolörer
Given that the production of digital offerings for schools by museums is currently an area of development, this article examines how teachers select, evaluate and use digital learning resources. The study is based on fourteen futures workshops with history and social studies teachers in secondary and upper secondary schools. The results show that teachers' practical appreciation of digital learning resources is closely linked to curriculum requir…
Ulrika Söderström. Kulturarv som resurs i socialt hållbar stadsutveckling
Ulrika Söderström's thesis is situated at the intersection of cultural heritage and urban planning. It explores how contract archaeology can contribute to the creation of sustainable future cities -something that is not (yet) happening on a significant scale. The thesis can therefore be said to examine a phenomenon through its absence, and consequently more general claims on heritage are a key research interest of the thesis. The relationship betwee…
Shapes of hot water
This paper explores the ontological politics and practices of handwashing using hot tap water during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden through attending to how handwashing was performed, what thoughts and emotions handwashing practices evoked, and reflections about why these thoughts and emotions emerged. In analyses based on written diaries, stories, digital photos, and videos from the private sphere of the home, we show how the concepts of humans…
The Poetics and Politics of the Swedish Model for Contemporary Collecting
Between 1977 and 2011 the Swedish organization Samdok presented a nationwide programme for contemporary museum collecting, including an increasingly flexible intellectual and methodological framework. This article considers Samdok, its evolving programmes and self-presentations. It suggests that Samdok's self-image was one of inclusive progressiveness, social engagement and equality. It also suggests that they display four major rhetorical shifts…
“Now It's Not School, It's For Real!”
By taking up the strand in Lave and Wenger's writing on situated learning that directs attention to social dynamics and issues of power and positioning, the present article argues for the fruitfulness of including the concept of negotiated participation in approaches to teaching and learning. Based on a fieldwork in vocational media production projects, this study demonstrates the tensions and contradictions that came out of the hybrid nature of …
History in Popular Magazines
This article explores how the low of the popular and the high of history intersect to negotiate masculinities in the nexus of politics and war in a Swedish history magazine. It investigates the content of the magazine's form and argues that it produces a kaleidoscopic take on the past which begs the reader to go along with the ads to buy another book, travel to one more historical site, buy a DVD or go to the movies, to turn the page, or to buy a…
LHBTQI-perspektiv och kulturarv. Aspekter på urval, överväganden och tillrättalägganden
Today museums strive to include LHBTQI perspectives in exhibitions and audience development, as well as in the collections. This article is an attempt to explore three cases of archiving LHBTQI memories and experiences. We use a broad definition of “archiving” to also include digital collections, exhibitions and social media so as to investigate different approaches. The first case we approach is the website Unstraight Museum where we bring to th…
