  • Drone-based thermal imaging of subsurface architecture

Open Access•Paige Paulsen, Carolin Ferwerda et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026•References: 23

Thermography is a promising method in arid environments with near surface features. • Thermal imagery reveals settlement plan of Iron Age copper production site Raki 2. • Raki 2′s full plan is substantial and combines dense and dispersed architecture. • Domestic architecture at Raki 2 paralleled at other Iron Age sites. This paper presents thermal imagery of Raki 2, a large Iron Age copper production site near Yanqul, Oman. The site, composed of …

  • Non-destructive analysis of archaeological amber from Iron Age Kerkenes in central Anatolia

    Open Access•Amir Zaribaf, Joseph W Lehner et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2025•References: 5

  • Methodological Advances in Understanding Environmental Constraints on Sustainability and Industrial Periodicity of Ancient Copper Smelting in Southeast Arabia

    Open Access•Amir Zaribaf, Joseph W Lehner et al.•ARTICLE•Open Quaternary•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 26

Industrial periodicity is a hallmark of modern and ancient extractive economies. In Southeast Arabia, current evidence demonstrates that intensive periods of copper production are bracketed by century- to millennia-scale periods of little to no production. Explanations for this periodicity range from environmental degradation (e.g., deforestation related to unsustainable fuelwood provisioning) to shifts in local and distant trade networks to inte…

  • Long‐distance interaction in Urartu

    Open Access•Atilla Batmaz, Joseph W Lehner et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2019•References: 23

The paper analyses tin bronze weaponry found at the first‐half‐of‐the‐seventh‐century‐ BCE Urartian fortress in the Lake Van region of eastern Turkey. Examples of finely manufactured artefacts provide evidence for the consumption of high‐quality bronzes in a well‐defined elite context. This study tests for the presence or absence of long‐distance procurement of the raw materials used to produce status objects. The results of quantitative elementa…

  • New tin mines and production sites near Kültepe in Turkey

Open Access•K Aslıhan Yener, Fikri Kulakoğlu et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 22

  • Lead Isotope Analysis and Chemical Characterization of Metallic Residues of an Early Bronze Age Crucible From Göltepe

Joseph W Lehner, Joseph Lehner et al.•ARTICLE•Türkiye Bilimler Akademisi…•2009

Bu calismanin oncelikli amaci, Goltepe'deki bir Ilk Tunc Cag pota parcasinda bulunan metal kalintilarinin kursun izotop oranlarini bilinen pek cok metal madeninden edinilmis verilerle karsilastirarak pota kalintisindaki kursunun hangi kaynaktan gelmis olabilecegini saptamaktir. Pota parcasi uzerinde yapilan kursun izotop olcumu, metal kalintilarinin uzak maden yataklarindan mi, yoksa, varsayildigi gibi, Toros Daglarinda bulunan daha yakin kaynakl…
