    Open Access•Jean-Guillaume Bordes, Jean‐Guillaume Bordes et al.•ARTICLE•Espacio Tiempo y Forma Serie I…•2002

    Marie-Louise Inizan, Marie‐louise Inizan et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2000•Cited by: 44•References: 3

The antiquity of fire-using crafts goes back to the Solutrean, a 20 000 years old prehistoric culture of western Europe, when heat treatment was first applied to siliceous rocks for pressure-retouching. It is recognized that this preliminary treatment makes pressure-flaking easier (both débitage and retouching). The technique is now also linked to pressure débitage, the origin of which may be traced back to the Sibero-Mongol Upper Palaeolithic, a…

  • Kombewa et alii

    Jacques Tixier, Alain Turq•ARTICLE•Paléo•1999

  • Une molaire d'enfant aurignacien a Ksar 'Aqil (Liban) Mt. Carmel, Israël

    Anne-Marie Tillier, Jacques Tixier•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1991

The tooth described here, Ksar 'Aqil 3, is an upper right deciduous molar found in an aurignacian level, which can be dated around 29.000 yrs BP. This tooth probably belonged to a child, approximately 10 years old, a little older than Ksar 'Aqil 1, discovered more than forty years before. No contemporaneous fossil teeth are available for comparison in the Middle East. The occlusal morphology of this tooth, as well as its dimensions fall within th…

  • Radiocarbon-accelerator dating of Ksar 'Aqil (Lebanon) and the chronology of the Upper Palaeolithic sequence in the Middle East

    Open Access•Paul Mellars, Jacques Tixier•ARTICLE•Antiquity•1989•Cited by: 46•References: 8

The old importance of the eastern coastal region of the Mediterranean for the later Palaeolithic has been recently reinforced by remarkably early TL dates for modern hominids there. This important series of dates for the early Upper Palaeolithic at a Lebanese site adds to the story

  • Nucléus - pendentif de Suse

    Jacques Tixier•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1982•Cited by: 2

    Jean Chevalier, Marie-Louise Inizan et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1982•Cited by: 12•References: 1

Carnelian beads at various stages of elaboration were found scattered over the surface at Larsa, and concentrated in a limited area at PL 1, a small tell near the site. Biconical perforations were produced first by pecking a concavity on one end, then by striking the base of this depression in order to remove a cone-shaped piece from the opposite end. In both cases, flint reamers ("perçoirs") are found associated with the heads. This technique of…
