That's none of my business
The contribution of large companies is needed to decarbonize energy systems and the production of goods and services. Many companies respond actively to increasing pressures for contributing to the Paris Agreement's temperature goal, but is this more than greenwashing? A realistic assessment of companies' climate responses proves methodologically challenging. Previous literature highlighted a loose coupling of “symbolic” and “substantive” measure…
Freiheit vom Absoluten

Digital technology, tourism and geographies of inequality
Tourism is undergoing major changes in the advent of social media networks and other new forms of digital technology. This has affected a number of tourism related processes including marketing, destination making, travel experiences and visitor feedback but also various tourism subsectors, like hospitality, transportation and tour operators. More radical than the change in technology itself, the COVID-19 pandemic has hastened questions of digita…
Tourism valorisation
Tourists' role in place valorisation processes is increasingly recognised. Not only do tourists play an important role in adding or subtracting value to places of attractions through their presence and practises during their visit, they also engage in value judgements through acts of evaluations, in particular via new online platforms. Such practices receive increasing scholarly attention but remain mostly undertheorized. Building on the concept …
Schellings Freiheitsschrift – Methode, System, Kritik
Schellings Freiheitsschrift shows that demonstrating the possibility of human freedom requires us to fundamentally reconceive an unexpectedly wide range of philosophical issues. This volume brings together current perspectives from the international scholarship on Schelling in order to advance the critical evaluation and interpretation of this philosophically rich text.
Schellings Freiheitsschrift - Methode, System, Kritik

Tourism and Everyday Life in the Contemporary City
"This book explores the phenomena of the urban every day and new urban tourism. It provides a systematic framework and draws on a mix of theoretical and empirical work to look at the increasing intermingling of 'tourists' and 'residents'. Tourism and urban everyday life are deeply connected in a mutually constitutive way. Tourism has become a key momentum of urban development and affects cities beyond its economic dimension. Urban everyday life i…

Robert Gordon Blackadar (1928–2017)
Few Southerners seasonally active in the North immerse themselves in the local language and culture to the degree that Bob Blackadar did. In less than 10 years after his first summer as a geologist in the Arctic Islands, Bob became fluent in Inuktitut. He traveled extensively with the Inuit in the 1950s, often using traditional means, such as dog sledges, pack dogs, and small boats. Clearly captivated by the Arctic, Bob continued working there un…

Glimpses of Another World
The paper explores how the favela turned from a social problem into a touristic attraction by analysing the favela on three spatial levels. The first level deals with its consolidation as a social and geographical space and its manifestation as an international sociological category. On a second level the representations of the favela in public discourse are condensed into two main positions – the problem-centred representation (favela) and the i…

Ivory Gull Colonies on the Devon Island Ice Cap, Arctic Canada
Four small Ivory Gull colonies have been found on nunataks on the ice cap of eastern Devon Island. Mainly on the basis of their similarity to known breeding places of the Ivory Gull on Ellesmere Island, all four sites are believed to be those of nesting colonies the first to be reported from Devon Island.Key words: Ivory Gull, Pagophila eburnea, colonies, nunatak nesting sites
