The Disappearing Russian Forest: A Dilemma in Soviet Resource Management
Transportation in Eastern Europe: Empirical Findings, by B. Mieczkowski
A Comparative Evaluation of Firms’ Behavioral Environments Based on Two Forms of Cluster Analysis
This paper utilizes hierarchical and non-hierarchical Cluster Analysis to evaluate entrepreneurs' perception of regional economic milieux, and tests hypotheses concerning differences in entrepreneurial perception within an undifferentiated population of firms and among groups of product-related firms. The attitudes of 107 manufacturers in Calgary. Alberta, Canada toward fifty statements deemed to reflect the essence of their regional manufacturin…
The Application of Cluster Analysis to Entrepreneurial Perception of Regional Economic Environments
This paper evaluates nine elements, comprised of 233 entrepreneurs' locational attitudes in two Canadian metropolitan centers, for evidence that perception of the same region differs according to metropolitan location, and that locational images are related to specific types of manufacturing activity. Hierarchical cluster analysis is used to group attitudes that entrepreneurs hold toward their regional economic environments into patterns of simil…
Soviet Timber: Regional Supply and Demand, 1970-1990
This paper investigates a specific problem, namely the ability of Soviet regional timber resources, particularly those of Northern European Russia and Siberia, to sustain the demands expected to be placed on them by world and domestic markets in 1990, the final year of the fifteen-year intermediate-future planning or forecasting period now guiding much of the national and spatial development of the Soviet economy. Contrary to the findings of othe…

Some Spatial Interpretations of Alternative Optimal and Suboptimal Solutions to the Transportation Problem
T he CALCULATION and economic interpretation of alternative solutions and sub‐optimal solutions to the transportation problem of linear programming are discussed and illustrated with particular reference to their application in the Soviet wood‐processing industry
Regional Variation in Soviet Pulp and Paper Production
This paper analyzes changes in the distribution of Soviet pulp, paper, and paperboard production between the years 1940 and 1965. Regional variation exists both in physical volume of production and in type of plant. Production of pulp and paper occurs primarily in integrated plants, whereas most paperboard is manufactured in non-integrated mills, but integrated manufacture of all three products has increased between 1940 and 1965. Regional locati…
