Open Access•ELŻBIETA SANECKA, Marina Morón et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2025

During the COVID-19 pandemic, civic and prosocial activities were indispensable actions complementary to public health. Two cross-sectional survey studies ( N = 216 and N = 300) were conducted. We analyzed the roles of individual (i.e., resilience, empathy, and positive orientation) and social (i.e., family communication) factors in promoting civic engagement and mental health indicators of adolescents and young adults during the COVID-19 crisis.…

Open Access•Dariusz Krok, Ewa Telka et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Religion and Health•2025

Spirituality has been found to have some protective effect against pain experiences in cancer patients, but its role in alleviating total pain is not well understood. Intervening factors such as meaning in life and coping with pain also have not been closely examined in cancer patients. This study investigated the serial mediating effects of meaning in life and pain coping on the relationship between spirituality-conceptualized in terms of religi…

  • Signaling high sensitivity: The roles of sensory processing sensitivity, assertiveness, and the dark triad

Open Access•Marina Morón, Martyna Kajdzik et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Pacific Rim Psychology•2024

High-sensitivity signaling may be an attempt to adapt to an environment by sensitive individuals. However, it may also be a deceptive strategy of nonreciprocal resources extraction used by people with a highly exploitative interpersonal style. In their first study ( n = 102), the authors used a peer-rating design to investigate the associations between perceiving somebody as highly sensitivity and attributions of agency and communion. In their se…

  • Motivations to Enhance One’s Facial Hair: Affiliation, Rivalry, and Stress

Open Access•Marina Morón, Marcin Moroń et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Sexual Behavior•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 55

Facial hair is a sexually dimorphic trait with potential evolutionary and sociocultural functions. Bearded men are perceived as dominant, aggressive, and masculine, but also as having better parenting skills. Men may intentionally manage the amount and shape of their facial hair as a part of their self-promotion strategy; however, facial hair management entails costs in terms of time, effort, and money. We explored psychological factors associate…

Both scales had high internal consistency reliability. Coronavirus stress and COVID-19 bur…

    Open Access•Anna N Gajda, Anna Gajda et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2023

Cyberbullying is a form of antisocial online behaviors. Perpetration of intentional and repeated harm inflicted through electronic devices is associated with dark personality traits and may be caused by morally impaired reasoning. In the current study, we investigated the associations between the Dark Tetrad (narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, sadism), cybervictimization, and cyberbullying. We also examined the intervening role of moral d…

  • Signaling High Sensitivity to Influence Others: Initial Evidence for the Roles of Reinforcement Sensitivity, Sensory Processing Sensitivity, and the Dark Triad

    Open Access•Martyna Kajdzik, Marina Morón•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2023

Signaling high sensitivity to others may help individuals with heightened sensitivity to stimuli to craft their social relations to a preferred activation level ("assertive signaling of specific needs" hypothesis). Signaling sensitivity could be also a deceptive strategy helping to extract resources or obtain the desired treatment ("deceptive signaling" hypothesis). The study presents the construction of the measure of signaling high sensitivity …

Open Access•Łukasz Jach, Marina Morón et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Sexual Behavior•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 58

Men with distinct facial hair are perceived as more aggressive, dominant, older, and more formidable, mostly by other men. However, despite considerable interest in the social perception of beardedness, only a few studies have explored men’s preferences toward facial hair. We investigated men’s preferences toward facial hair and whether their judgments of facial hair appropriateness in social situations depended on their actual beardedness and th…
