  • The Goat-Fish of El-Hosh: An Unusual Petroglyph Identified

Open Access•L Evans, Fred Hardtke et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology•2024

To our knowledge, representations of zodiac symbols are unattested in Egyptian rock art. The investigation of a petroglyph at the site of el-Hosh in Upper Egypt has found that it bears a strong resemblance to the zodiac sign of Capricornus, a composite figure combining the head and forequarters of a goat with the body of a fish. The sign first arose in Mesopotamia in the late third millennium BCE, from which it subsequently spread to the Mediterr…

  • For love and money: Navigating values at the antiques roadshow event

Open Access•H Cornish, Gavin Weston et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Popular Culture•2024•References: 12

Antiques Roadshow Events are held in historic locations across the United Kingdom. On site, experts evaluate objects brought in by attendees, who are often cast as passive recipients, while edited highlights make up the long‐running BBC TV program. Through Collaborative Event Ethnography at one Roadshow Event we show how object stories are navigated through “value talk” between attendees and experts in front of live audiences. Value is not a meas…

  • Ancient Egyptians’ Atypical Relationship with Invertebrates

    L Evans, Philip Weinstein•ARTICLE•Society and Animals•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Despite the ubiquitous presence and vital role of invertebrates in all known ecological systems, insects and arachnids are largely viewed as repugnant by people. Consequently, until nature intervenes in the form of infestations, swarms or plagues, we largely prefer to ignore them, lest our attention invite unwelcome interaction. In contrast, the people of ancient Egypt did not distance themselves from invertebrates but instead celebrated their my…

  • Further Evidence that Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep were Twins

Open Access•L Evans, Alexandra Woods•ARTICLE•The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology•2016

The Saqqara tomb of Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep has been the subject of considerable debate. Unique wall scenes in which the tomb-owners hold hands and embrace have led to much speculation about their relationship: some scholars suggest that the two were simply brothers and show filial affection, others have proposed that they were twins, ranging from identical to conjoined siblings, while a third hypothesis views their relationship as homosexual.…

The aim of this study was to investigate how the attachment orientations of adult children (N = 119) and older parents (N = 148) predict family caregiving and perceptions of carer burden.
