Addressing in-service teacher professional development is a significant issue for educational stakeholders as reform movements mobilize to replace teacher-led instruction with student-centred pedagogies. Teachers need access to high-quality professional development to mitigate implementation problems associated with reform practices. Drawing on critical ethnography, I followed the year-long professional journey of six in-service science teachers …
Science Teacher Inquiry Identity
Globally, science teachers have been tasked with developing new pedagogies that incorporate inquiry-based and problem-based teaching strategies. In this article, we focus on a duoethnographic study of two teachers (the authors of the article). One of the authors teaches high school science in Canada, and the second has taught high school science in India and Ethiopia. We share our remarkably similar stories, which began with unaddressed pedagogic…

Focusing on the convergence of pallor and Tragedy in visual and verbal representations of Sarah Siddons, it examines the multi-layered valences of “tragic pallor” within the broader economy of eighteenth-century performance…

Diane Arbus's Grostesque ‘Human Comedy’
In the spate of publications that has appeared since Diane Arbus's death in 1971. numerous critics have commented upon her freakish subject matter and sought to explicate or neutralize her often disturbing photographs.3 Moreover, in Arbus's case, her short, intense life and suicide have been fashioned into a potent legend that has tended to obscure rather than illuminate her photographic oeuvre. All too frequently, the work has been 'explained' b…
