Influence of environmental temperatures during gestation and at birth on eating characteristics in adolescence: A replication and extension study
Treating personality fragmentation and dissociation in borderline personality disorder: A pilot study of the impact of cognitive analytic therapy
Recent findings suggest that personality fragmentation may be a core component of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and that successful treatment of BPD may depend on the extent to which this is addressed. Cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) can increase integration by strengthening awareness, and hence control, of the dissociative processes maintaining fragmentation. This pilot study aimed to conduct a systematic evaluation of the impact of CAT…
Bulimic Women's Perceptions of Interaction within Their Families
The association between women's perceptions of the interaction within their families and symptomatology related to eating was investigated in a case series of 81 women suffering from bulimic disorders. Bingeing was more frequent when the family was perceived to have poor problem-solving skills but was less frequent when the women perceived their families as having a more cohesive style. In contrast abnormal restriction of intake was linked, altho…

The use of ‘left’ and ‘right’ in speech: The development of listener-specific skills
Two experiments are reported, where the development of pragmatic communication skills was assessed in a simple but realistic setting, so that even the youngest speakers could construct consistently accurate messages. It was shown that children of up to six years are specifically hampered by the speaker's use of left and right , but not by the use of named landmarks. Children were also allowed to create their own messages. The ability of the speak…
Linear organization of spatial instructions: Development of comprehension and production
Spatial instructions can be linearly ordered so that the sequence in which landmarks are mentioned corresponds to the spatial ordering of those landmarks en route. Two experiments were performed to in vestigate the ability of children to utilize and to produce such linearity in receiving and giving spatial instructions. Children were shown to be able to use highly linear instructions by four years, but were able to reorganize less orderly input o…
