Child Custody Mediation in Cases of Domestic Violence
Mediation of child custody disputes is mandated in several states. Investigators have averred that victims of domestic violence (DV) are greatly disadvantaged in mediation. The present study empirically evaluated outcomes and found that mediators failed to recognize and report DV in 56.9% of the DV cases. The court's screening form failed to indicate DV in at least 14.7% of the violent cases. Mediation resulted in poor outcomes for DV victims in …
Self-Reported Effort versus Actual Performance in Information Processing Paradigms
This study provided data supporting Ericsson and Simon's (1980) conclusion that, within the framework of human information processing, verbal reports can provide a valid and informative source of data. One hundred nine volunteer participants were tested on a battery of microcomputerized tasks. After each task, participants were given a self-report questionnaire concerning perceived difficulty and effort expended. One hundred participants returned…
Equating the Standard and Advanced Forms of the Raven Progressive Matrices
Raw scores on the Standard and Advanced forms of the Raven Progressive Matrices were rescaled in a college sample by means of equipercentile equating to yield a common scale that accommodates a wider range of talent than do the raw scores of either form. The common scale is expressed as IQ with mean and standard deviation equated to the national normative sample for the Otis-Lennon IQ Mental Ability Test
The relationship of depression and thought disorder in pain patients
In the recent literature, the presence of thought disorder occurring with depression has been both supported and contradicted. In order to clarify the relationship of thought disorder and depression this study examined three areas of cognitive function in depressed and non‐depressed groups drawn from pain patients and normals. Subjectively, depressed subjects had significant deficits in abstraction, associative tightness, and speed of information…

Bridges between schizophrenia and gerontology
Evaluation of Psychotherapy
Factors involved in the outcome of psychotherapy were studied by asking 5 individual therapists to judge their own effectiveness under various therapeutic conditions. Of 9 variables, only 2 were statistically related to positive outcome based on therapists' subjective opinion: the number of interviews, and approaches in which individual psychotherapy was combined with other approaches such as chemotherapy and family therapy. Although subjective, …

Efficiency of Peabody Picture Vocabulary in Estimating Wisc Scores for Delinquents
IQs on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test for 106 males 13 to 16 yr. and of lower class status were related to WISC IQs (assessed by student examiners) in three different ranges (80–89, 70–79, Below 70) as a function of race. Both group and individual results were consistent with previous data showing the Peabody scale generally overestimates the IQs of retarded subjects. The present results, however, also indicate that the Peabody tended to und…
Possible Differential Wisc Patterns for Retarded Delinquents
Under controlled conditions, an attempt was made to assess the generalizability of Wechsler's WAIS hypotheses for the non-defective adolescent sociopath to 80 retarded juvenile offenders. Groups were separated according to race and sex while IQ, socio-economic status, and geographic location were controlled. The criteria for selection of subjects were incarceration in a state juvenile correctional facility and a Full Scale WISC IQ below 70. Resul…
Naturalistic Analysis of Verbal Behavior in Psychotherapy
A parallel-response questionnaire, the Therapy Session Report, was administered to the 57 patients and 19 therapists of the Kent State University Psychological Clinic immediately following each intake session. The purpose of the study was to provide normative data on the content of dialogue in psychotherapy and to extend the generalizability of previous results. Data analysis focused on the frequency, structure, and patient-therapist agreement of…
