Open Access•Fabricio Carneiro, Guillermo Fuentes et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Social…•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 5

Welfare systems in which access to social benefits is mediated by formal employment and income level face renewed tensions in the context of increasing labor market heterogeneity and widening income inequality. These pressures give rise to multiple forms of segmentation, which challenge the traditional dualization hypothesis often used to characterize the evolution of welfare architectures in Latin America. In this context, the health care system…

  • Decentralisation in Montevideo: The Effects of Inequality and Party Mobilisation on Electoral Participation at the Territorial Level

Open Access•Martín Freigedo, Germán Bidegain et al.•ARTICLE•Bulletin of Latin American Research•2025•References: 32

How can we explain the political participation rate in electoral processes with different logics of representation? To address this question, two mechanisms of citizen participation in Montevideo are compared: conventional elections and participatory institutions. Focusing on territorial inequality, a dual comparison is conducted-both between the two mechanisms and within each one. The first comparison reveals that conventional elections systemat…

Open Access•Fabricio Carneiro, Felipe Carneiro et al.•ARTICLE•Escritas/Revista Escritas•2020

  • Old Friends in New Times: Progressive Parties and Union Movements in the Southern Cone

    Open Access•Fabricio Carneiro, Guillermo Fuentes et al.•ARTICLE•Latin American Perspectives•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 20

An analysis of the course of relations between union movements and left parties in four Southern Cone countries shows that, while in Uruguay and Argentina the progressive parties were able to maintain alliances with union actors and empower them, in Brazil and Chile left parties and unions experienced conflicts that hindered the formation of alliances. In the four countries studied, two variables had a strong influence on the possibilities for fo…

  • Uruguay 2017: Reactivación Económica Y Nuevos Conflictos Políticos

    Open Access•Fabricio Carneiro, Federico Traversa•ARTICLE•Revista de ciencia política•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 1
