  • Mrs Dalloway encontra Virgínia Woolf: Um Estudo Sobre a Autonomia De Mulheres

  • História Natural E Escrita De Viagem: A Voz De Elizabeth Cabot Cary Agassiz

  • Women and Nature? Nature Writing in the Dystopian World Margaret Atwood’s The Testaments

Open Access•Nathália Felix De Oliveira, Natália Fontes De Oliveira•ARTICLE•Interfaces Brasil/Canadá•2021

Women and nature have an age-long association that has persisted throughout history, cultures, literatures and arts. In much of western thought, women are viewed as closer to nature in binary opposition to men, who have metaphorically and historically been associated with culture. The androcentric logic extends the binary opposition to culture/nature, placing a higher value on culture and as a result sanctioning human domination over nature. The …

  • Motherhood in Toni Morrison's Sula and A Mercy: Rethinking (M)Othering

Open Access•Nathália Felix De Oliveira, Natália Fontes De Oliveira•ARTICLE•Aletria Revista de Estudos de…•2016

Motherhood tends to elicit strong feelings in women as well as a passionate rhetoric in our cultural discourse. Daughters have extensively been the focus of studies about mother-daughter bonds. Surprisingly, much less attention has been given to mother figures. By tracing the theme of motherhood in Sula (1973) and A Mercy (2009), I investigate how Toni Morrison rewrites the experiences of black mothers during slavery and its aftermath in the Unit…

  • Sisterhood across different races and ethnicities

Open Access•Nathália Felix De Oliveira, Natália Fontes De Oliveira•ARTICLE•Em Tese•2011

This article argues that sisterhood among women charactersfrom different races and ethnicities is possible and can helpwomen characters fight against victimization and struggle forempowerment. To illustrate this idea Toni Morrison's novel Amercy is analyzed and discussed

  • The Ethics of Care and its Alterations

Open Access•Nathália Felix De Oliveira, Natália Fontes De Oliveira•ARTICLE•Em Tese•2011

In this article I argue that in Toni Morrison's Sula and A mercy, the ethics of care is altered as characters resort to unconventional actions to survive and care for loved ones in a racist and sexist society. I suggest that these changes have many different implications for the characters
