  • Géomorphologie et processus expérimental

Pierre Cazalis•ARTICLE•Cahiers de géographie du Québec•2005•Cited by: 1

For many years systematically concerned with the complementary disciplines of fundamental research and practical application, the science of geomorphology is now beginning to be removed from its classical purpose - the contribution to the understanding of geographical milieu - and to be extended to other more technical and non-geographical fields. Whether or not the new geomorphology remains in the academic ranks of geography, it is nonetheless n…

  • Le Saint-Laurent, facteur de localisation industrielle

Pierre Cazalis•ARTICLE•Cahiers de géographie du Québec•2005

With almost 100 million tons of cargo yearly, of which more than 80 millions pass through Québec ports, the St. Lawrence is an important artery of transport. The fluvial communications System, comprising gulf, estuary, river, and the Great Lakes, extends deep into the north American continent; Duluth, for example, is 2,200 miles from the sea. Although the Seaway has opened the Great Lakes to ocean-going ships, the general increase in tonnage and …

  • L'hydrologie printanière de la rivière Saint-François

Pierre Cazalis•ARTICLE•Cahiers de géographie du Québec•2005•Cited by: 1

The abundant spring run-off in Southern Québec is a result of the heavy winter precipitation and the length of the retaining period. One half of the annual discharge occurs in March, April and May, yet the maximum monthly coefficient (April) on the Saint-François is little more than 300. This low figure is due to the length of the thawing season, which extends the flood over at least four weeks, and to the retaining action of the numerous lakes. …

  • Sherbrooke

Pierre Cazalis•ARTICLE•Cahiers de géographie du Québec•2005•Cited by: 1

Because they are due to economic contingencies rather than to unfavourable natural conditions, present-day regional disparities compel the geographer to modify his concept of the region. Whereas in the past the region was considered essentially as a physical entity, to many authors it appears today to be « a functional area, based on communication and exchange, and as such defined less by its limits than by its centre » (Juillard). It is this con…

    Pierre Cazalis•ARTICLE•Revue française d administration…•1994

The Transformation of the "Profile of competences" of Public Service Senior Managers in Quebec. The relationship between the modernization of public administration and the training of senior managers was the subject of a study conducted by the Commission in charge of evaluating the future replacement of managers of the public service in Quebec. If it is well admitted that the modernization of the public service is a multidimensional task and that…
