  • La morphologie des environs de Québec et la basse-vallée du Saint-Laurent

François Taillefer•ARTICLE•Cahiers de géographie du Québec•2005

The morphology of the Québec region and the lower St. Lawrence valley is reappraised in this article divided in three parts. The physical landscape is described in part I ; the structural conditions are examined in part II and the morphological problems are presented in part III. The relief is the result of a succession of glacial episodes and submersion and emersion episodes which followed glaciation. The over deepening of the Limoilou depressio…

  • Les mines de fer de Schefferville

André Journaux, François Taillefer•ARTICLE•Cahiers de géographie du Québec•2005•Cited by: 1

The iron mines of Schefferville, at a latitude of 55° N., are the first mines exploited in one of the best provided iron ore regions in the World ; the geosynclinal of Labrador. Their distance from the sea (360 miles to the estuary of the St. Lawrence) is compensated for by the richness of the ore deposits : abundant reserves, high percentage yield, and the quality of the mineral. The ore is mined in open pits ; the main difficulty is the harshne…

  • Les rivages des Bermudes et les formes littorales de dissolution du calcaire

François Taillefer•ARTICLE•Cahiers de géographie du Québec•2005

The littoral morphology of the Bermudas is an erosional morphology in limestones, the main processes being mechanical action and solution. The temperatures, in January and February, of the waters washing the Bermudas, are low enough to prevent the growing of true coral reefs. Therefore, it is not the morphology of a coral reef. The predominance of wave-cut cliffs is the most striking feature, despite the low and gently rolling topography. There a…
