    Open Access•Shantanu De Roy, C Saratchand•ARTICLE•Agrarian South Journal of…•2026

The attainment of a hunger-free world by 2030 requires a strengthening of the agrifood system in the Global South and particularly in India. • A Theoretical Consideration of the Socialist Market Economy

    C Saratchand•ARTICLE•International Critical Thought•2022•References: 15

The recent economic experience of countries such as China, Vietnam, Laos, etc., has invoked some interest in the economic system in these countries. Then a simple macroeconomic framework of a stylised socialist market economy is set out and its …

  • A Macro-Theoretic Exploration of Some Covid-19 Induced Constraints on Economic Policy

    C Saratchand•ARTICLE•Review of Political Economy•2022•References: 8

The Covid-19 pandemic has spawned a crisis whose dimensions encompass the domains of health and the economy. The latter is on account of the use of non-pharmaceutical interventions such as lockdowns in order to deal with a highly contagious disease. Though some vaccines have emerged, lockdowns of varying degrees are still required since geographical coverage of vaccines is uneven, the protection afforded by vaccines is only for a finite period of…

  • The struggle against corporate encroachment in Indian agriculture

    Open Access•Navpreet Kaur, C Saratchand•ARTICLE•Capital & Class•2022•References: 3

The repeal of the Three Farm Laws by the Union Government of India is the first consequential setback to the neoliberal project in India after 2014. The struggle was largely carried out by peasants in alliance with workers. The Left in India played a decisive role in crafting this setback to the neoliberal project by working towards the building of a tendential working alliance between peasants and workers. The popular resistance that has been en…

    Open Access•Shantanu De Roy, C Saratchand•ARTICLE•Human Geography•2021•References: 3

The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic has led to an aggravation of the agrarian crisis in India. The rural proletariat, poor peasants, and a section of middle peasants in India have been adversely affected. The paper advances a composite policy initiative to deal with this aggravation of the agrarian crisis involving an expansion of the existing rural employment guarantee schemes, various input subsidies to farmers, universal provision of safety gea…

  • A Comparative Theoretical Study of the Role of the Public Sector in China and India

    C Saratchand•ARTICLE•International Critical Thought•2020•References: 8

The experience of developing countries such as China has many lessons for other developing countries such as India. It also has relevance for any country which seeks to ensure autonomy of national decision-making in an international economy that is often unfavorable for such a stance. The role of the public sector in China is one of the reasons why a characterization of the development trajectory of that country as being neoliberal would be unten…
