  • Beyond ‘Hellenes’ and ‘Barbarians’

    Sandro Chignola•ARTICLE•Global Intellectual History•2024

  • Homo homini tigris

    Open Access•Sandro Chignola•ARTICLE•Philosophy & Social Criticism•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 31

This article addresses the modern concept of sovereignty as a multivocal and conflictual semantic field, arguing for the necessity to trace its genealogy based on the structural tensions that haunt its logical framework – as well as its representations – rather than on a linear historiographic reconstruction. In particular, the scrutiny I propose aims to examine a series of exchanges that have been characterizing this concept since the beginning:…

  • Foucault’s Politics of Philosophy

    Sandro Chignola•BOOK•Foucault's Politics of Philosophy•2018

Oriented around the theme of a ‘politics of philosophy’, this book tracks the phases in which Foucault’s genealogy of power, law, and subjectivity was reorganized during the 14 years of his teaching at the College de France, as his focus shifted from sovereignty to governance. This theme, Sandro Chignola argues here, is the key to understanding four features of Foucault’s work over this period. First, it foregrounds its immediate political charac…

  • A toupeira e a serpente

    Open Access•Sandro Chignola•ARTICLE•Revista de Direitos e Garantias…•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Assim, analisando duas figuras zo…

  • Kelsen, Weber

Sandro Chignola•CHAPTER•The Foundation of the Juridico-Poli…•2015

The signs of Max Weber&s;s familiarity with Nietzsche&s;s oeuvre appear, initially, to be abundant. There is the incontrovertible use of specific words and phrases from Nietzsche&s;s philosophical vocabulary, such as ascetic ideals, the slaves revolt in morality; or allusions to such phrasing, as with Nietzsche&s;s last men who have invented happiness, or eternal recurrence; or Weber&s;s own Nietzschean inflected phraseology, such as artist God, …

  • Program polityczny dla dwudziestego pierwszego wieku

    Open Access•Sandro Chignola•ARTICLE•Praktyka Teoretyczna•2011

Publication in the conference proceedings of EUSIPCO, Bucharest, Romania, 2012

  • Civis, civitas, civilitas

Sandro Chignola•ARTICLE•Contributions to the History of…•2007•Cited by: 1

By focusing on the Italian translations of civilization, the author explores ways in which conceptual change has reflected historical developments in Italy. Unlike the widespread literal translation of civilization from English or French to other languages, civilizzazione has been a marginal term in Italian. On the other hand, terms such as civiltà, more akin to the Latin civitas, are more frequently employed. e article maps out the complex seman…

  • In Honor of Reinhart Koselleck

Open Access•Sandro Chignola, João Feres Junior•ARTICLE•Contributions to the History of…•2006

Contributions to the History of Concepts has much to celebrate. On one hand, issue number 3 inaugurates the journal’s second volume; its second year of existence. The reception of volume one could not have been better. We have received enthusiastic feedback from readers all over the world. Contributions has published authors from many different countries and from diverse academic milieus and traditions. The international reception of conceptual h…

  • Redescribing Political Concepts

Sandro Chignola•ARTICLE•Contributions to the History of…•2005

Kari Palonen, Die Entzauberung Der Begriffe. Das Umschreiben Der Politischen Begriffe Bei Quentin Skinner Und Reinhart Koselleck.

    Open Access•Sandro Chignola•ARTICLE•Historia Contemporánea•2004
