  • Forum on John Corrigan's Emptiness

    Open Access•Kate Bowler•ARTICLE•Church History•2016

An open frontier imagined by restless pioneers. A bleeding back punished by Lenten mortification. A troubled soul leaning over the anxious bench. John Corrigan's groundbreaking book looks over the wide landscape of American religious history with a new dialectic in mind: empty and full. • Daily Grind

    Kate Bowler•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Economy•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Second, beginning in the 1990s, prosperity megachurches pioneered forms of worship music mimicking "arena rock" that capitalized on both th…

    Kate Bowler•BOOK•Blessed•2013•Cited by: 9

Blessed introduces a comprehensive history of the rise of the American prosperity gospel. What began as diverse metaphysical, pentecostal, and self-help conceptions about the power of the mind became one of the most influential popular religious movements of the last century. The book follows how the movement took shape after World War II in pentecostal healing revivals and exploded onto the national scene through televangelists with big hair and…
