  • Predicting Prosociality in Primates

    Open Access•Jacob Sevastidis, Gary Clark et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•2025•References: 139

Prosocial co-operation is critical for evolution and survival on Earth and has crucially shaped the development of Homo sapiens. Inter-brain neural synchronization (IBNS) has been shown to enhance prosocial co-operation in mammals and avians. The selection pressures which led to the development of IBNS throughout primate evolution are currently unknown. This paper aims to expand the understanding of IBNS in non-human primates by reviewing the lit…

  • Quests for therapy in northern Uganda

    Open Access•T Allen, Laura Storm•ARTICLE•Journal of Eastern African Studies•2012•Cited by: 6•References: 12

This article presents a case of diachronic ethnography. It examines quests for therapy among the Madi people of northern Uganda. It is based on ethnographic fieldwork carried out in and around the small trading centre of Laropi; originally in the late 1980s and again in 2008. By revisiting the same field site at different points in time, and by drawing on related ethnographic material collected in the 1950s and 70s, we are able to examine how suc…

  • A meta-analysis with nothing to hide

Laura Storm, Lance Storm et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•2010

In our article (Storm, Tressoldi, & Di Risio, 2010), we claimed that the ganzfeld experimental design has proved to be consistent and reliable. However, Hyman (2010) argues that the overall evidence for psi is, in fact, contradictory and elusive. We present a case for psi research that undermines Hyman's argument. First, we give examples from parapsychologists who do not outrightly dismiss psi, despite appearances, but actually support it. Second…

  • Does psi exist? Comments on Milton and Wiseman's (1999) meta-analysis of Ganzfield research

Laura Storm, Lance Storm et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•2001

    J. Milton and R. Wiseman (1999) attempted to replicate D. Bem and C. Honorton's (1994) meta-analysis, which yielded evidence that the ganzfeld is a suitable method for demonstrating anomalous communication. Using a database of 30 ganzfeld and autoganzfeld studies, Milton and Wiseman's meta-analysis yielded an effect size (ES) of only 0.013 (Stouffer Z = 0.70, p = .24, one-tailed). Thus they failed to replicate Bem and Honorton's finding (ES = 0.1…
